What the heck cluster is this????

It says 67-68, which I'm not up to speed on.  It looks almost exactly like a 1969 to me but has an ammeter.  Anyone know?

I don't know the exact cut off but up to 67 anyway the standard cluster on big cars included an ammeter.

The Canadian cars started using the PC in '67.... The ammeter would usually burn the circuit from the plug in to the meter studs... ('68 is the same, '69 the background went from a bluish to a black))

Vince, Vince, Vince, you just won't acknowledge the best year of Canadian Pontiacs, will you???!!!

66 Canadian Pontiacs used a printed circuit. I think that was the first year.

PFFFT...... I think!  LOL... I wasn't sure because I didn't part any of those.... (or work on) Again, usually because of the ammeter... So, if '65-'66 use the same cluster, would '65 be the first?

I am not sure on 65 but I think it was individual wires even though the front looked the same.

I know US 66's were wired because the US gauge cluster Ken and I put in our 66's needed to be converted from a PC to wires.

I have a '65 wagon here... if I get time, if I am not beat to it, I will look....

it is a standard US P8 67 or 68 console or 4 speed cluster

63-64 could have had the fuel and battery in the cluster if it had AC or if it had Rally gauge set (oil and water would be in the 3 gauge pod)

65-66 did not ever have battery or fuel in the cluster, they were only in the 3 pods. Rally set would have water and oil in the cluster. No printed circuit but 66 did have the plastic piece like this one. 65 did not have that, bulbs simply pushed into the back.

67-68 just like this one, no printed circuit, battery and fuel in the cluster as there was no longer the 3 gauge pods to put them in

69 printed circuit but similar to 67-68

70 printed circuit but had black background paint.

Just for kicks, check out this 67 cluster. This is what you got if you ordered the full gauge package as well as the speed warning. Very odd setup for sure. Also note that the fuel gauge has a low fuel light. You got the low fuel light if you ordered Speed Warning, Cruise Control or the full lamp package. www.ebay.com/itm/1967-pontiac-speed-warning-with-factory-gauges-VERY-RARE-1968-/262694093456%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=GluWYEurpGjjpJoBwR7O1WEM2G4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Brad, is it possible that not all 66's had that?

First post in this thread shows the cluster I pulled out of the 66 Bonneville with a 3 on the tree at Al's. This cluster went in to my black GP. I am pretty sure it looked exactly like this when I pulled it.

Certainly could be that they did the printed circuit on Canada, but not in the US. The lower cluster in the first photo you have in that thread shows the correct cluster for 65 US built full size car, maybe 66 although they are exactly the same other than the bulb mounting plastic piece. Also could have been a mid year change on the plastic piece or even a gauge type that got the plastic piece.

They do have different writing on the gauge between 65-66. Makes them easy to tell the years apart. 65 says "ENGINE OIL PRESSURE" and 66 says "OIL PRESSURE".

That lower cluster in the photo most certainly came from a 66 that looked like it had been there forever. You may have seen that car when you were there. It looks like it likely spent at least 30-35 years there, judging by the trees that have grown in around it.

Post #9 in that same thread has a poor picture of a 65 but you can see the writing on the oil gauge.

Yup, was looking more at the common changes of all 65 66 clusters standard or rally.

Here is a 66 cluster on epay that has the plastic holder for the bulbs. The housing itself is the same and once you remove the plastic piece there is no real difference between 65 of or 66 clusters.

Just for giggles, I went looking and it seems that the American '67 cluster wasn't a PC either... Strange!

My 69 Brougham has both, looks pretty much the same as the 67 except it doesn't  have the script for the speed warning.  It has a printed circuit board.

I'm still surprised that the rally dash and/or speed warning dash didn't include the Lights, Belts, and Fuel lamps. Why not?

Hey John,

How many of those clusters have you seen. I have only seen a couple of them out there. Nice pic and looks like a super clean ride you have there!!

Mine is the only 69 I've ever seen with both gauges and speed minder, but gauges without the speed minder are more common then you'd think.
