Only in Canada, eh? Pity!

I'm putting together the US RPO information to go alongside the Canadian order sheet on my website, and noticed that in the US you could NOT get rear defog in a convertible - but I had a 2+2 that had it!  It was weird, it hung in the fabric boot that goes up and down with the top.

That also added a switch, so you could have Antenna/Top/Defog.

How about reverb? Did they offer it in a convertible?

reverb was available in convertibles in 69 since the reverb unit was mounted under the dash that year.

Lots of aftermarket reverbs were mounted under the dash but the spring units were still in the trunk.

I had a under dash Echo Mate in one of my past cars (still have the unit) but I'm missing the spring trunk unit.

I don't think there were any reverbs in full size Canadian Pontiacs in 1969.

REverbs started dying out when FM stereo came in (Reverb can only be played on a mono radio)

Looks like the American 67 Catalina was the last full Pontiac to have them as well as the 68/69 GTO.....

and theoretically the unit could have been in a convertible because the factory unit was now above the

glove box door instead of mounted in the rear trunk.

So if one had a GTO reverb unit from 68/69 or a 67 Catalina one could retrofit it into any convertible.

...but try and find one. hmm

1967 Pontiac Catalina and 68/69 GTO reverb unit:

There is one reverberator listed for the 1968 Tempest GTO car and it happens to be a carryover from the 1967 Catalina,
using the same part number even,
The parts catalogs for replacement reverbs list it as a super cession for early 1968 units.
They used the chrome switch installed on the dash.
For whatever few 1969 GTOs were made with reverb, the switch was changed to the rocker style as you'd find for the convertible top or windshield wipers.

1968%2Bgto%2Breverb%2Band%2Bbracket.JPG

This pic shows the reverb unit with bracket for a 1968 GTO.
This set up was installed above the glovebox door.

The wiring harness on a mid 1967 to 1968 reverb is shorter than a 1967 and earlier unit because
these were mounted up front under the dash instead of the rear seat  trunk divider wall.

By 1969 the switch itself changed
to a black and white rocker version, otherwise the unit was the same.

Chevrolet did not offer reverb.

Here's a couple photo's of the rear window defog in my 70 2+2 rag.  One is of the parts of the system (actually from a 69 Parisienne rag and now at home in a 69 2+2, but the parts are the same in 70), the other is of the finished product in my 70.

While the reverb unit was under the dash in 69, I think it still utilized a rocker switch on the dash.

Reverb was offered on all American Pontiac models in 69 except the Firebird which used Chevy style speaker systems.

I still want to know what happens if you have a power top, power antenna, reverb, and defog in Canada. There's no room for all of the switches!

That said, I cannot find a part number for a 1969 Reverb switch. Group 9.654 should have them but it ends in 1968.

Did no one get the Red Rose Tea reference? Or did everyone get it and it was too obvious? I'm throwing out Canadiana here, I expect people to appreciate it

I got the Red Rose reference. Does anyone remember the old Resdan comercials around 1969? Resdan was a dandruff shampoo only available in Canada. In the circa 1969 commercial there was a shady guy in a trench coat standing on a street corner at night trying to hawk his wares on passers by.  Presumably it is in a U.S. border city. A couple walks by and he says something like, "Hey, wanna buy some great stuff? Imported from Canada." He goes on to say how it get rid of flakes and dandruff, all the while he is simulating the washing of hair with the product. The couple respond and say, "But we don't have dandruff". The hawker asks, "Hey, where you from?" They reply, "Canada." Undaunted the hawker moves onto his next victim and the ad fades out.

I can't find a pic at the moment. May have to take one but our safari has rear gate window switch rear defroster power antenna grant and rear speaker switches on the dash

Our convertible has top and reverb switches. The reverb box is up under the boot tray beside the top motor in the trunk

If someone can provide a picture of a '69 w/ Reverb rocker switch, then we can ask what happens if you have reverb/antenna/defog/top. Which there isn't room for. But it all hangs on whether or not the 69 used a rocker switch for reverb!

I've seen a 70 2+2 with an aux blower motor for the kick panel vents. So imagine if you add that option to the mix. I'm sure it was available in '69.

^^^ That's right! Forced astro-ventilation, available only without AC. So in theory:

Antenna
Defog
Reverb
Top
Vent

Here's a pic from a GTO with reverb, but I don't know if they used the same switch in the B-Body.

I tried the parts book (Canadian) and no go, it doesn't list any parts for a reverb system in a 69 full size.

So I pulled out the GM Accessories book for 1969. Oh, and by the way, this is available for everyone's viewing pleasure right here on Canadian Poncho. Just go to the library and look for the link.

i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp173/gmaccessories/69/6951.jpg

As you will see, the complete accessory kit for a reverb is the same for full size as well as Tempest and Beaumont. I would say that tells us the switch is the same in dash rocker switch on all 3 models.

Interesting, that is completely different looking from the US reverb factory option.

Here's the picture from the 1969 Accessory catalog on 1969Pontiac.com, but since you couldn't get Defog in a US Convertible, they had one less switch to contend with (I don't know my wagons):

I think that is a generic picture. I suspect the US and Canadian models were the same. That picture is the 67 and older style from what I have seen.
