Thanks! cant wait to get out too. We are just building a stronger drive shaft right now. just got new 1350 yukon yokes and 3" tube. should be overkill. We have lathes and welders and anything i guess we need to fab stuff so we will build it ourselves and have it balanced. will replace the 2.5" shaft. We are in southern AB, but will be around to shows and red deer and medicine hat tracks as often as I can
OMG - is that Vega? The only thing on those that didn't rust was the shifter knob !
1975 Vega GT with surprisingly no rust at all but it does have about a 1/2 inch thick bondo on the passenger 1/4
Its a fun street/strip car.Had no engine or trans and was set up for a small block and has a 12 bolt chevy rear-end that somebody hacked to make it fit.
It's got an iron headed 383 stroker with solid roller cam,Air gap intake with a holley 750 Vac secondary carb,10:1 slugs,sanderson headers with Cobra side pipes,Turbo 350 trans 2500 stall,373 rear gears.Installed sub-frame connectors and 4x4 boxed steel brace(cut up into car) for the rear end lower control arm mounts,beefed up the upper control arm mounts as well.Multiple drag launches caused the driver side lower control arm mount to move forward 1 inch,thought the car was done for until i found that 4x4 box design.
Best run so far has been an 11.68 @115
Installed a quick fuel 750 double pumper last summer but never made it out to the track after that,it sure feels strong down low and might put me in roll bar territory.
I should really have a bar in it anyways.Dont know if I could handle a 4 wheel drift in a vega at 115 mph,although one night at the track one of the street cars dropped anti-freeze at the top end and nobody saw it until I got squirrely and just about hit the wall after a few hard lefts and rights.
Very cool...11.6 is fast in a real world street car. We are hoping to get there too. How did you like the tunnel ram compared to the air gap? Are they factory gm heads? What kind of hp do you think you're getting with the iron heads.
You'd be surprised at how many of the thumper cammed street cars have 500 horse at the drive in/car show and then some excuse why the car cant race

Your car will haul the mail with the nice motor PLUS nitrous = Fun Fun Ride,should be quick but it takes a lot of work to stay consistent. Curious how that big bugger will re-act? We'll have to square off in time trials.
Meh the tunnel ram(for me) was very hard to tune,it actually reacted completely opposite of how i read they should work.Should suffer on low end torque but scream in the upper rpm's
Mine pulled the drivers wheel 8 inches off the ground and felt/sounded great but was about a second slower,I needed a good carb guru to look at it but for 500.00 bucks I had to try it.
Looked really cool but wasnt about to chop a hole in that nice hood
yep factory camel bump heads,horsepower unknown,car weighs about 2900-3100 lbs
My dad loves the camel humps. We built and seriously ported a set for my engine first. My dad literally has a shelf full of them in the garage, and a set of over the counter race heads from gm that were never on production cars. He Wants to build a 302 to put them on in a light car that would be a screamer some day.
Have not raced yet at a track.
My car weighs at the truck scale 3840lbs with about half a tank of fuel. and with me almost exactly 4000. So we have to see how fast it will run for real.
It would definately be fun to race your vega. 3100 lbs is so light though, hard to beat that. ( The new camaros weigh like 4200lbs)
It will take alot of tuning and stuff to get the most out of it. We will run just engine for quite a while, Dad wants to make some nitrous runs but does not want me doing it for a while. but it is a beautiful car, so like yours would hate to have it get sideways so just got to be careful.
We also have a 71 chevelle that is my dads project. Probably another small block for it... It is a long way off from finishing because we are building my little brother a big block 80 chevy stepside. It is a factory 454 truck and is going to be fathom green which will be cool.
