She's a beauty queen, maybe not by world standards but by true Canadian Pontiac lovers.

I've had a few people comment about the paint chips and little dings on my car. I politely acknowledge their comments but in my head I'm thinking "these aren't REAL car people."

Interesting that it has 2 rear speakers. What radio did it come with?  I remember it being an 8-track car.

Also FYI - I have a couple of those speaker grilles NOS.

On American fullsize Pontiacs ordering a Stereo 8 track and/or a stereo radio netted you two rear speakers (and a front one on the dash). Without an 8 track an AM or AM/FM mono radio netted you only one front speaker with a single rear speaker optional. Being a Canadian car maybe it used the chevy type speaker system where a stereo 8 track and/or stereo radio netted you two front (kick panel) and two rear speakers. My 69 Firebird is like that it came through with an 8 track so it has chevy spec front kick panel speakers and two rear speakers even though the radio and 8 track are Pontiac units.

I just reread the whole thread, amazing work being done. Can you imagine the cost of that kind of metal work at a body shop!

I noticed at the beginning you mentioned it had a power seat, which according to the factory ordering literature (sales album and accessorizor) wasn't offered with bucket seat. It also wasn't offered with a bench and a four speed (I guess the extra travel would interfere with the shifter?

 

Here are the factory chalk markings on my two tone two plus two (that's a mouthful!).  Palladium on top and Burgundy on the bottom.

According to the VVS, there was no power seat. I took the previous owners word that it had it. When I got it home it took a week of monkeying around to get the doors to open and close.

With regards to the speakers the wiring looks factory. The car was originally delivered with AM/FM and console mounted 8track. The kick panels are exactly the same as the ones that were in my Parisienne with AM. No speakers. The radio I pulled from the car looks identical to an AM radio I have. So either I have no idea how to verify the AM/FM or the radio was swapped out early in the cars life.

Back to the rear speakers, does the stock wiring just go from from one to the other?

As I've added 8 tracks to both my 70 2+2's, I've contemplated adding the 2nd rear speaker. I can easily add another speaker grille to my hdtp, and I also have a spare one to add for the convertible. (69 & 70 convertibles have the speaker grille in the right rear armrest)

Sounds like Canadian big Pontiac cars had the American style set up for speakers (no kick panel speakers).

When A car had two rear speakers they just used a jumper wire to connect the left rear speaker to the right rear (when single rear speaker was installed it was always on the right) resulting in an in series connection. The schematic is the jumper harness plugs into both rear speakers but the end of that harness on the right speaker has a "bisexual" connector so it plugs into both the right speaker and to the connector of the harness coming from the dashboard. Always a good idea to have two rear speakers, I find with a single rear speaker you have to put the fader bezel almost completely to the rear to get a balanced front to rear sound. Convertibles and wagons were the exception in that most did not come with two rear speakers even if the car had stereo radio and/or 8 track.

There's a lot of cars in that photo! There's the red 2+2, my blue 2+2, a Parisienne trunk, some Catalina quarters, and so on!

Can someone with a convertible confirm they still have the "spare tire dent" in the floor of the trunk even though the have and use a different hold down?

Making good progress on the '69 Dave! Curious as to what was used for the replacement trunk floor...is that a repo floor for the '65-'70 Impala? From the photos it looks like they are doing nice work!

Yes, they used the 3-piece Impala trunk stamping.  It doesn't reach all the way back to the rear bumper filler and needs to be "extended" but gets you a lot closer.

I reupholstered the seats and assembled the interior in the spring. The wrinkles have worked out in the heat of the summer. Ill need to get a couple pics of the installed interior.

 When these cars were new, they  were not built to Rolls-Royce standards. Imperfections were the norm. They did put a lot of engineering into simple little things. Anti-rattle stuff, proper grounding paths, but they were mass-produced to a price point. I believe that in the days when they built this car they were cranking them out pretty steady.

This car deserves the GM Mark of Excellence decals near the latches of the doors.

I went to the shop yesterday for my first post-Covid visit. They've made some progress, but the metal guy tore his knee up somehow so is off for a while...

The front fenders are the original 2+2 pieces t the belt line and then patches made form Bonneville stuff below that.

Eric.... How did the paint work out on the bucket seat aprons and backs ... Can you pass of the info on what brand and color you used . I have parchment plastic too , but they are a little chalky.. I have other aprons in other colors ... just need to know if the spray will cover other colors well. Thanks
