As much as I love those cars, the sad reality is they just don't command big bucks for some reason. A nice 66-67 hardtop will easily bring more money than one of the cute little ragtops. And in this case, as rare as a 4 cylinder is, it's likely a strike against this car as far as value goes. Very unfortunate that they don't have great value, unless you're a buyer.

Maybe Lefty will chime in here with a different thought but from what I've seen, 15K seems to be pretty close to tops for these cars in premium shape. And that would be a 6 cylinder Sport Deluxe.

I know they came with four cylinder motors as the base engine and the six was an extra cost option but i have never seen one with a four. In all my many years in the hobby (over 40), i have never seen one with the four. I would love one of these with a four. I have always loved the first generation (1962-1965) over all the ones that came after. They are all great (1962-1973) but if i had a choice it would be 1962 to 1965.

What's the highest price you've seen one sold for? I don't think I've seen one hit $20K yet.

But I agree with you, they should be worth mid 20's all day long in premium shape like your's.

I guess I'm actually comparing it to it's sister, the Nova convertible which sadly likely brings more money than the equivalent (and rarer) Acadian.

It seems like it's always been and will continue, Beaumont vs. Chevelle, Acadian vs. Nova, the Chevy will always win. Maybe not when you have the right Canadian buyer but certainly when you think outside of Canada. That old saying, rarer doesn't always mean more valuable.

No, Carl, you are right from what I've seen too. The 64s and older don't pull very big bucks. Might get 15 on a good day but don't think I've seen one pull over 20 unless it was completely modded.

Yes, I guess I never thought to mention the modded part. All bets are off when guys do that, you never know what to expect.

Since I've been old enough to look at cars I've always thought the Canadian Poncho vehicles had more going for them than the Chevy equivalents (sorry Bowtie guys...).

During the 10 years I owned my 1962 Canadian built Chevrolet Nova 400 Convertible, very few people showed much interest at all in the fact it was Canadian.  I sold that car to a doctor in Texas and he could have cared less about it's heritage.  It definitely did not make it any easier to sell or bring anymore money.

I would really be interested in knowing how many of the 62 Acadian Beaumont Convertibles built were painted black.  In terms of the Chevrolet Nova 400 Convertibles built in the U.S., I know black was not a popular color.  Our family 62 Nova Convertible was Twilight Turquoises with an Aqua interior.  This car was picked out on the showroom floor by my Mother and I believe 1962 was near the end of the pastel era with the dark colors taking over in a show of power or muscle.

First 62 Impala 409 I rode in was white, 1st 64 GTO was dark blue, 1st 63 Plymouth push button hemi was black, 1st 65 GTO Convertible was dark blue, 66 GTO was Bright blue, 65 442 silver, 65 Corvette 365hp green, 65 buick GS green.  These are just a few of the new cars I rode in starting in high school.  After WWII, the country burst open with pastel color cars because so many of our cars prior to that time were black or at least dark colors.

Regarding the black paint, I'll eventually be starting a thread on the topic of factory paint- once I get a few clues together. I've long heard that black was not easy to work with for some reason. Maybe it showed flaws too much? Maybe it was expensive? Or maybe it just wasn't in style at certain times? One particular thing I'm looking into re black paint is something I was told about the black 66 Parisienne- that the black paint on that car might be some kind of special or unusual finish from the factory. Something about DuPont or Ajax? coming up with newer/different paint for black cars of this era. The paint on that Parisienne shows no oxidation whatsoever and it has been suggested to me that I carefully check into the finish before trying to polish it (not planning to do that by the way). Has anybody heard of unique  or different or special paint finishes around this time- especially regarding black finishes? I'll also post this is a new thread and maybe anyone with info or thoughts on the matter could please reply there? Thanks.

I think that 62 Acadian 4-cylinder convertible is super rare and unique. Those 4-bangers were noticeably rough running compared to the six. Personally I would love that Acadian (minus the skirts) and I wouldn't change it. It would probably warrant a collective yawn in the collector market though. There are cars that are the darlings for flippers and then there are special interest cars for the true freaks & car nuts. A 4-cylinder '62 Acadian convertible would be for the freaks.

What is a 4-cylinder 1982-85 Camaro worth to a collector? Nothing unless it has a good body to drop in a V8.

The best running 4 cyl Chevy II I ever found was in northern Montana.  I bought a 62 Nova convertible parts car in Kalispell, Montana and while there to pick it up, the seller had a 64 Chevy II 100 2 dr sedan with a 4 cyl and he transplanted an S-10 5 speed trans.

He ran this car at the local drag strip, can't remember the times but i remember being impressed.  It turned out he had contacted Mercury Marine and they sold a cam upgrade and reworked heads for the 4 cyl.  Mercury Marine bought lots of these 4 cylinder motors from Chevrolet and installed them in boats.  Demand from boat owners allowed them to develop upgraded performance parts for these motors.  I believe he had upgraded to a 2bbl carb also.

P.S.  In the mid 60's, I worked at Chevrolet V-8 engine plant in Flint, MI and at times on what we referred to as a sub-line.  This line ran off the main SBC assembly line and after receiving brass soft plugs, we hand assembled the 4 & 6 cylinder marine motors.

My brother played with boats for many years, buying and selling salvage boats etc. He always said that 4 cylinder marine engine seemed to be a great engine, especially the one I think he said was 140 horse?

Mercruiser & OMC used the 153 L4 as their 120-horse stern drives. The 140-horse was a bored  stroked version displacing 181 cubes. The 153 had a 3.87" bore x 3.25" stroke; the 181 was a 4" bore & 3.6" stroke.
