I've always had a soft spot for the 396 (I've never driven a 427 Sensible Carl), this thing would burn a lot of rubber with a set of original bias plies on it.

I have to wonder if this is a factory 4 spd or been added? With the bench seat, I just have to wonder if it has been added. Not knocking the bench, but it just doesn't seem right with a 4spd and no buckets or console. Nice car tho.

not at all, SS package or bucket seat console would cost money so a lot of them were just bare bones to go racing. 4 options, engine, tranny, posi and am radio that's it

 you got it!!  Infact I know of a original owner , 69 Chevelle SS  factory 4spd  bench seat car.

    Used to own a '68 SD 396 , factory 4 speed and bench. They happened. Also knew a guy in '66 bought a brand new Chevy Impala , 396 with bench and 4 speed.

In Winnipeg in the late 70's/early 80's I saw a 68 Impala 427 4 speed bench seat car a few times. Haven't seen it since, or heard any more about it.
