1964 Pontiac factory tach


does anyone have any wiring diagrams or can someone tell me how or where the wires for the factory tach should go. Ours is not working but I am seriously doubting the wires are correct.  They have been repaired but I think they are wrong

It uses a U.S. Pontiac harness. I got one at: M & H Electric Fabricators (www.wiringharness.com) Part #04605. Excellent harness ... VERY original!

It should. Mine has a brown blue and white wire. Brown wire is in attached under the hood. The blue wire is illumination. And someone has the white wire attached to a ground crimp on eye that is not factory. I got to thinking that the tack does not seem to have power

Brown certainly should be the - side on the coil, that was pretty standard for GM tachs in the 60's. I have read online that many tachs used a white wire for ground, so that sounds right. Blue must be the light but you should be able to see that on the back of the tach, if so.

I couldnt find anything in the manual. I would love to know the right way to take it apart and make sure that there is not a 4th wire that has been broken off

Nothing in the 64 manual, no.

The manual really only starts with good RPO stuff in 66 and by 69 it's even better.

Ya, there is not a lot of info. on these tachs. I printed that diagram off the internet and substituted my coloured wires for the pink/gray.

The harness I bought colour matches the cut wires still attached on my existing tach perfectly.
