1957 Pathfinder clutch


1957 Pathfinder with original 283 ci and three in tree. Wanting to order a clutch pack but local Lordco has multiple listings and not shure what to order before pulling it apart. Small town parts stores are not always overnight and would like to be ahead of the game. Thoughts on original clutch size. Thanks

The factory flywheel would have been 168 tooth.  I think the factory clutch would have been 10" with a 1 1/8" ten spline shaft but I've heard that an 11" clutch was an option, probably on the higher horsepower engines (power pack).   FYI, the flywheel should be re-surfaced at a machine shop before installing the new clutch.  I recently did the clutch in my car and I bought a new flywheel for around $200 rather than taking the old one to be machined.  If you go with a new flywheel, it will be drilled to accept multiple clutch sizes, so you can install whatever clutch size suits your needs for your driving style and horsepower level.  If you go with a new flywheel, make sure that it's for an internally balanced engine.

Thanks for info. Was hoping local shop can resurface flywheel but time will tell.

Where did you get your flywheel?   I am replacing the clutch on my 261 and will likely replace the flywheel rather than resurface.
