Installed rebuilt 7028210 Q Jet on the 68 Grande


I purchased this Autoline rebuilt 7028210 Q Jet from 68sd396rag and finally got to install it.  Apparently the original 7028210 on this 68 Grande was in dire need of a rebuild because what a difference!!  Its an engine now!! Went for test drive and couldn't keep my foot out of the peddle, I was having so much fun.  On the passenger side, you can see an Edelbrock divorce choke part # 1935 that just bolted right on the Edelbrock manifold and hooked up with no problem.  Works like a charm!  Thanks to 68sd396rag for selling me a great carb!  Apparently sitting in a box for years on a shelf has no ill effects on a carb, just bolted on, fired it up with no issues!!

Good stuff! That mirrors my experiences with Autoline over the years at our dealership too. Amazing how a guy can think a carb is healthy but yet a new one makes a difference.

I think when you come for a ride in my 283 car I will need a ride in your 396 car!

You bet we can go for a spin in the Grande. I will bring back the two inlet fittings you graciously borrowed me when some dumb @$$ cross threaded the 7/8 inlet nut on the original carb. I am not letting that guy touch this car again, LOL! no 

I am just going to tune the carb with a vacuum gauge and should be good to go on a longer road trip one of these weekends!  And I need to get a new battery as well.  After tearing around south Wpg on a test run, I pulled into the local gas station for some gas and the battery wouldn't spin the hot engine over.  My wife wasn't too happy when I called her to bring the truck and booster cables!   cry

I bought an NOS (not rebuilt, actually a new NOS carb by Rochester) 2bbl for my 69 LeMans (350-265) just because it was cheap and still in its factory shrinkwrap. The old factory installed carb ran fine but it was sweating gas a bit and had some wear on the throttle shaft. But with the NOS carb (same exact carb number as what came off) was like bolting on an engine rebuild. It idles like silk with zero stutter, vibration or rpm flutter. I've had all kinds of carbs rebuilt over the years by some of the best guys in the business (including NOS rebuilt Delco carbs) but never had a car run as smooth as this. I guess you just cant perfectly clean all those little unreachable internal passages and fix all the little stress cracks and worn bits no matter how well you redo a carb.
