He is too cheap for his own good - he is hoping to find a backyard retired mechanic who will do the job - I try to tell him that due to the specialized nature of transmission repair there probably are very few mechanics who will do that type of work from their home garages

 

Meanwhile he is paying 50.00 a month for storage

Yes, I think they measured 0-60 times for those in days.

Good engine though except for the issue with wearing out cam lobes.

 yes the cam went out of mine too. Replaced it and had a hell of time trying to get the lifters out of the block. Bought the Olds half way through the cam change on the Pontiac

For some reason these two door Olds 98s of this era are a hard sell.

There is a very clean similar white one up for sale in Ottawa right now for $6,500.

It has around the same number of km's on it. 

Been up for several years with the price slowly dropping.

The Nova Scotia one in the ad is beautiful!

Anyway one of my friends has the four door version of one of these cars and it won't go into reverse or shift out second - it is presently sitting in a storage area until he figures out what what to do with it. He really likes the car and doesn't want to scrap it

 

Back in the 70s and 80s the shop I worked for pulled the 200 trans and replaced them with turbo 350 s.

A minty 79 Olds 88 just showed up for sale in Nova Scotia. A friend of mine's parents had the exact same car back then- same colour ext/interior.  I remember this car rode like it was on a cloud. I didn't know they came with the a 301 though

And a 2bbl no less. Olds did some name gaming and the Delta 88 Brougham was available with the bigger engines, 350 and 403.

Yes, 301 with that half-a-quadrajet two barrel.

Not a great engine for that car, I drove one on a 2000 mile trip way back when. 307 was 100 times the engine in all areas.
