65 Laurentian bodyside moldings. Clip questions.

Guys,

Body trim is something I know zero about. I'd like to put the drivers side trim back (less the rear section) on the 65, but have no clue what clips I'll need. The trim changes width from the front to back, so it likely needs an entire range of sizes to get it mounted. I'm not prepared to attempt to remove the passenger side trim to look, and cannot find anything on line as to what I'll need. Even the Pontiac sites don't respond to questions about 65 trim. I have only a couple of rotten clips.

Anyways, the body from the front fender through to the quarter has a series of holes. I know each section of trim has a combination of both push in and bolt on clips. They bolt on wherever they can be accessed from the back (at the ends of the trim sections). Push in when it cannot be accessed. I have no idea how these push in clips work. Are they fitted into the trim then the trim gets bumped and bolted on? There is a total of 12 holes in the body with one using a small screw inside the door jamb.

Also, where could I get the correct clips, and how are they even measured?

I've included a couple of shots to start with. Any help is appreciated on this new saga,

The three sections viewed from behind. You can see the lone push in clip (with the whisker), and the remains of a couple of bolt in clips on the ends,

My manual didn't have any part #'s for those fasteners. Best guess would be to take the remaining ones to a body shop supplier. Then match up to what you have.

Can anyone here describe how this wide trim comes off? Do I just unbolt the edge clip speed nuts that are gotten from behind, then pull the trim straight off, clips and all? Or do you slide or unhook the trim from the push in clips?

I'll probably have to take the good side off to see what clips I'll need. Hopefully they are all there.

Woodstock is coming up and I a sure you will find someone there knowledgable about what you are looking for. Take a couple of pieces of trim for sample fitting.

Thanks Cliff,

A swap meet might be one of the best places to look. You can actually see and hold the part. Wish I lived near Hershey. I remember seeing a ton of fastener vendors last time I went.
