Depending on engine, a TH350 or TH400. It will bolt right up to a 283.

What flexplate are you using? The 2+2 or the 283?

I think the 283 used the smaller diameter flexplate with the small bolt circle torque converter and I know it had the small starter.

I think the 2+2 will have had the larger flexplate with the larger bolt circle torque converter and the larger starter, but as long as you use the correct match, converter and flexplate/starter combo it will all work on either engine. The beauty of the GM small block.

would imagine flex plate from 283 and might have to use the 283 converter as well I am thinking ?  not sure on the motor thats on the 350 trans now ? its blue block and a 2 barrel..so ?  dont know if flex plate converter and starter would work   would be interesting to have the 283 a 3 speed instead of 2

I would use the trans, converter and flexplate from the 3 speed if you have it all. Oh, and the starter, it's likely a different one vs. the 283.

A 3 speed auto behind a 283 is an excellent upgrade.

I believe either of the starters will fit all the small blocks but you just have to make sure you match the flexplate diameter to the correct starter.

If the starter has one long and one short bolt, use the small flexplate. Two same length bolts, use the larger flexplate.

And the 283 flexplate will not fit any engine made after the 85 model year.

Some small block blocks only have the 2 starter holes for the small diameter flexplate.

A friend recently had his block drilled to accept the large diameter flexplate starter.

The machine shop had a fixture to drill the 3rd hole.

He took his whole Engine in to have the block drilled as it was assembled.

Thanks
Randy
