Prior to the Liberals attempt to shove HST down our throats here.....we only paid provincial on used cars....if they were bought from a private seller.
After we voted to have the HST thrown out....they stuck us with the Federal tax on used car private deals.....
ANY tax...on used goods.....is a TOTAL rip-off.....IMHO.
Getting the papers for this car should be relatively simple....providing it was previously reg'd...in BC.
All that is needed is a completed BC transfer of ownership form.....from the seller.
I've done it numerous times.....Cost is less than $50.00.....plus tax....and transfer fees.....(not sure how that would work on an out of province deal....on the tax part)......but will prolly take 2-3 weeks for correspondence, etc.
Thanks for the info. We pay 15% on used cars as well, each time it's sold. So if a car goes through 3 owners in a year, tax is collected 3 times. I've never agreed with that, and it's not always been that way, but governments like to look at ways to take your money, and that will probably never change...
