 Also from 4 speed conversion site......(look up bell housing 464697)

If 621 is cast on the clutch fork stud boss, It's the same as 3899621.

If 697 is cast in the clutch fork boss this bell housing is specific to

1978-87 A and G body.

Excellent point, and that appears to be the difference between the 3899621 and the 464697 castings.   By just a quick look on ebay, all the 697 bell housings all had the ball in the top position.
