WANTED: 64 BEAUMONT CONVERT TOP SWITCH TEMPLATE NEEDED and MEASUREMENTS

Anyone with a power top on a 1964 beaumont.

I am in need of a cardboard template( or some exact measurements) of where to cut the hole in the lower dash.

Also a photo of a for sure correct 1964 top switch, just to clarify that they are indeed different than the 1965's.

(i believe the 1965 is the same as a 64/65 chevelle), but the 64 is the same as a 64/65 tempest.  Pics appeciated

Isn't the hole just to the right of the park brake release the hole.
It is round on the Beaumont and square on the Chevelle.

The 65 manual shows the location and mine is there also, but I have never thought that a 64 would be different.

Lawrence, yes this is the correct 1965 switch in you pic.  That switch and bezel is the same as a 64/65 chevelle.

I dont really have a good pic showing the 64 switch but it is in the same general placement, but long and narrow vertically.

here is a couple really bad pics showing the 1964 one( both on rough relatively original cars)

Brian,  if you look at Lawrences pic, you see the round hole at the bottom of the dash, with the 2 screw holes,  that is for another accessory as far as i know.  It matches up to my rear window defroster switch perfectly(dealer added style).  I have never seen a Top switch mounted in that lower round hole. Do you have a pic of your cars switch.

If you look at a 1964 Beaumont owners manual, it shows what looks like this switch:  Now i just need the measurements from a car that has this switch

Cool thanks, yes those are the dimensions i need,  reflection on the tapemeasure tho,  cant make out the numbers

Those screw holes confirm my hunch that it is the 64 tempest style switch.

I stand corrected. Yes I see in the manual were it shows it, The Chevelle hand book doesn't show one.
I have a manual top. Now it makes sense about the location of the rear defrost switch.

Cool, a manual top. I had forgotten that was standard equip on A-bodies.  Probably kind of a "rare option" these days

Thanks everyone for the input!  we all learned all there is to know about 64 vs. 65 top switches.

And all of this information also applies to the station wagon power back windows too!

Here's some pics and measurements that could help

convertible top switch hole placement2.jpg

The cut out hole itself measures a nominal 1" wide by 1 1/2" high

Notice that the tape measure is hooked behind the steering column cover on the dash itself. The hole starts 1 1/2" from where the tape is hooked.
