May 2019 Feature Car

Ryan Mostat purchased this 1967 Beaumont SD as his first car! It's been over 37 years since that purchase and in that time Ryan has put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into the Beaumont to transform it into the beauty that we are proud to feature for May. Ryan gives us the details:

"In the fall of 1982 I was 15 years old and bought my first car.  A 1967 Beaumont 2 DR HT SD for $500! I bought it from a guy who used it for drag racing only. It was pretty rough but not for a kids' first car.  After the winter passed I went and got the car and found it had been stripped, no chrome, no hood, etc. So I went and bought another Beaumont 4DR for $90 and used it for parts.  The motor was gone, so I used the 283 2speed automatic from the 4dr to get through high school.  After working in Alberta for a year, I found a 396 motor and I built it with a turbo 400 and just drove it.  The car only had 32,000 miles on it.

About 1999 I stopped driving it and parked it in my garage (wife, kids, work, bills, divorce etc).  But 2007 I did a lot of night work and saved my money. It was late winter and I was going to go and buy myself another model to do in my spare time. Then I thought to myself, I have a really big model in my garage that needs to be done!  So, I decided to do the Beaumont. It only had 45,000 miles on it and no rust.

In my 14x20 unheated garage, I stripped and repaired the car. I was able to do all the body work and was lucky there wasn't any metal work to be fixed. Only 1 quart of body filler used to do the whole car. The stock colours were: turquoise exterior with gold interior. For a young guy those were the wrong colours.

I rented a paint booth at a body shop and painted it myself. I was a ticketed painter in my younger years and had the help of my best friend who is a ticketed bodyman! All the work on the car was done by me except for the re-upholstery of the seats, the headliner, and the glass. I primered the car with grey, then first coat yellow, then final colour was my modified version of viper red. And new black interior! She was hot! Made my new wife jealous.

I put front disc breaks on it and left manual steering (10 bolt posi with 3.08 gears).  Thanks to Canadian Poncho, I found out that my car is the first 738 Beaumont (December 6, 1966) built.  I kept the 14 inch wheels, added a dash tack and console clock. I didn't change anything else in order to keep my collector plates.

My Beaumont has not been washed since I repainted it. I look forward each spring when the roads are clean and I can start her up and hear her roar.

  Ryan"

Now that is one beautiful 67 and that red is out of this world. Real sweet to see that you kept your car that long and never gave up on her. Ryan, can you tell us more about your big block and what are your future plans for the 67. Cheers.

My brother is having his Monte Carlo motor re built by a good friend of mine. If he kicks my butt, then I will have my friend re build my motor.  I am currently going to replace my gas tank and bushings and box my suspension.  Aside from that, I am just going to enjoy driving.

Thanks, Ryan

If Ryan is correct about the original paint and trim colours being Turquoise with a gold interior.   This would have been a special customer order.

Based on the first picture of the car original paint colour on the cowl and firewall is Emerald Turquoise  paint code L

As GM of Canada didn't have a factory approved colour combination of Emerald Turquoise with gold vinyl this would make this a special order

The factory approved colour combination for Emerald Turquoise with black vinyl for bucket seats for a Sport Deluxe 763

Emerald Turquoise with fawn cloth and vinyl bench and split bench  Beaumont 4 dr sedan and Beaumont 2 dr sedan 764

or Emerald Turquoise with black cloth and vinyl bench and split bench  Beaumont Custom 4 dr sedan 2 dr sport coupe 4 dr sport sedan 759

Emerald Turquoise with black vinyl split bench  Beaumont Custom 2 dr convertible 761

Emerald Turquoise with black vinyl bench  Beaumont Custom 4 dr station wagon 761

Emerald Turquoise with black vinyl split bench and bench Beaumont 2dr & 4dr sedan 2 dr convertible  4 dr station wagon 757

Emerald Turquoise with black vinyl bucket seat  Beaumont Custom 2 dr coupe 2 dr convertible 763   After change over from A51 Sport Option package.  When buckets became an option again.

Ryan you have a great car,  Congratulations on  the restoration.   A rare early change over one from early December 1966.  It sounds like your restoration was a bit of a handful.

Information came from the 1967 GM of Canada  salesmans hand book  Same colour chart in the finger tip fact book.
