need an ignition switch for 65 Grand Prix........not sure if it's the same as Parisiennes?


hi Everyone! Just as the subject line says.......need the ignition switch for a 65 Grand Prix.....

If I remember correctly 65 Canadian and American are the same but 66 is different. US cars with transistor ignition may be different or the harness plug may be modified.

A couple years back I bought a switch claiming to be from a 65GP and it differed from mine, so I never used it. If I can find it, I will post pics.

If it helps at all, if you don't already know, you are looking for GM # 1116659. It's the same as a full size 65 Canadian Pontiac. 

If I remember right, the way it fits the dash is quite unique and makes it difficult to use any other one. Steve may be able to confirm that with the experience he had with his.

Found the switch that came with other parts, but forgot that the tabs are missing for some reason. The housing appears the same but the internals differ where the tumbler mates with the rotating part. The GP is a slot and the Parisienne is only one notch. Also the GP has a wire for the light, possibly fiber optic??

I have attached pics but can't make them appear.......

Steve, the Grand Prix switch has "680" cast on it which is likely from a 67 according to the GM parts book. The full number is 1116680. I see his 65 switch has "659" on it, so it makes sense for that one to be 1116659. From anything I can find in the books he has to get a 65 full size Pontiac switch, either Canadian or US model should be the same.

For what it's worth, I remember Rick Hoinkes (67rag396) said he had a light on the ignition switch of his 67 2+2 and a couple fibres that went to the ashtray.   Carl's 680 switch comments above and photo's seem to fit the description.

I did notice the cast numbers were different, as well as inside where the tumbler goes there are two pins in the GP unit, only a single in the Parisienne. That would indicate the shape of the tumbler assembly must differ as well. Apart from that, the terminal connections and mount seem identical.
