Interesting spy shot from a July 66 Motor Trend magazine

In a section showing multiple spy shots of what was thought to be the upcoming big brand changes, there is a shot of what was described a the 67 Pontiac front end.

The author possibly falsely described it as" Pontiac's grill is more pointed, and there are two scooped out sections in the front of the hood".

Interestingly, the spy shot appears to show a 66 Catalina 4 door HT, with a 67 GP grille grafted on. Some fender/valence mods, the 67 GP running/signal lamp units, but with the 66 hood still in place. Probably were working on finalizing the function of the hideaways.

Thought it might be of some interest here,

Does look funny. Do you think those are the top 66 headlamps? Or the 67 upper markers?

Probably doing a cooling test with the upcoming front bumper.

Motor Trend with their spy shots. Getting the early scoop used to be a big deal, especially when new car intros were shrouded in secrecy. Showrooms had their windows whited out so you couldn't see the new models before the official introduction date.

Any magazine worth it's salt would publish lot's of grainy spy shots and commentary back in those days.
