1965 Laurentian seat belt question(s)

Guys,

What style of belts would have come in a 65 Laurentian? Could you get a deluxe metal buckle with the GM logo? The picture below is what was in my 65, is this the stock low line buckle belt for 65? Pretty sad looking. Was black webbing, now hard and faded. One roll retractor missing. The surviving roller is weak.

Any recommendation of a good supplier? Any ideas? I'll go light blue webbing, and add two in the rear seat.

I agree with Todd.  I have bought seat belt webbing material from ssnake-oyl and have bought 2 sets of seat belt material.

The last webbing set I bought in 2015, to do the front and rears on my 1965 Nova cost me $160 plus 29.50 shipping (US funds).  Exchange was 1.1 back then.

When you call them they will ask what vehicle and year you want seat belt webbing material for and then they will mail you some sample colours and style...... so that you order the correct webbing.

When I purchased seat belt webbing from them in the early 2000's they would cut the webbing to the length you need (8 pieces).  When I bought them in 2015, they would not cut them to length anymore.

I have been happy with their product.

Frank

I sent my original belts to:

https://www.seatbeltsolutions.com/

They did a great job replacing the webbing, even sewed my original Canadian cloth labels back on and put my new re-tractors in place.

Here's a pic of the buckle from my all original 65 CS.
Also a pic of a little surprise tucked into the belt anchor end.

Thanks Ted. Confirmation that this was the style, even in the highline 65's.

So I just looked at mine again. I thought the paper showing was a remnant of a tag, but you proved otherwise Ted! Simple but interesting find! I wonder if your 1 ever hung out with my 2 and 6 after work lol?

Now I'm thinking that at least my buckles should be kept. They are in pretty good shape. I wonder if these "Dominion Auto Accessories - Toronto-" belts were installed at the factory or the dealer?

Dealer or factory installed? If factory installed were they an option?

Here's a scan of page 19 of the Pontiac section of the Pontiac Acadian Buick 1965 Sales Facts Book.Seat Belt comment from Salesmans Book.jpg

Now we know.

I'd try and keep the plastic sleeves as they are date coded.

Seatbelts were not required by law in Canada until January (I beleive) of 1968 and then only the fronts. Rears became law arond 1975 / 76.

Seatbelt Solutions are a great company and their belts meet federal standards. Most local trim shops won't touch seat belts because of insurance regulations

For 66 Beaumonts the belt on the far left was the deluxe belt. Third from the left was the standard belt. Im guessing your current belt is closest to the second from the left. (i sold the black one to a member a few years ago. I still have the others tucked away somewhere.)
