Can someone decode this Beaumont body tag

I got a Facebook request to decode this body tag. Nothing in my books.

Owner says it's on a 68 Beaumont he just purchased. He's worried because the rivets are gone

Thanks

1968 Chevelle 300 Deluxe, 2 door post. 307 powerglide, 770 interior is blue bench. Beaumont would be 73427.

That explains why I couldn't find anything. I did decipher blue bench seat though. Thanks!

Dare I say that the tag is for a pretty cool car anyway.

The car it is currently attached to is a black 68 Beaumont convertible with red interior and a 327.

Uh-oh. Been there, done that with a purchase. Has he checked the VIN tag?

Todd,

I see this all the time.  Tag switching happens quite a bit.  Not so common here in Canada.  But it is increasing.

Very common in the US.  VIN tags from early in production.  Cowl tags near the end of production on the same car.

Vin tag from the Atlanta plant.  Cowl tag from Kansas City on the same car.  VIN tag from 1964, cowl tag from

1965 on the same car.   I've had to inform people of some unpleasant truths after "the cheque has cleared."

So always if you are unsure.  Snap pictures of the tags.  And find someone who you knows how to decode to decode them.

That can be some in this group including myself.  I have the unique skill sets of being able to decode both Chevrolet

from both sides of the border. As well as, being able to decode Canadian Pontiacs.

If you don't look at the tags and confirm they match the model year, model and model line up. Then this sort of

situation can happen.

Its why I'm busier now doing decoding than I've ever been.   I know of a 69 Beaumont Custom convertible

with a 69 Beaumont Deluxe post sedan cowl tag.  Represented as a 1969 Beaumont Sport Deluxe convertible.

Happy New Year to you and your family.

PS  SD396 is mostly correct.  The cowl tag is for a 1968 Chevelle 300 Deluxe, 2 door post. V8, side window reveal and two tone paint moldings Powerglide, 770 interior is blue bench E =  Fathom Blue body  C = Ermine white top.  Also its a late production car built June 11, 1968.
