The manual steering box on my 59 leaks. To get through Bc inspection I cant have any leaks. Are the steering boxes easily available or are they rebuildable ?
They are rebuildable, I saw a post somewhere about a good kit available, likely in the USA. Id say they are the same from 59-64 at least. There are 2 different ratios if you find a used one, for manual and power steering. I might have 1 here, but Id have to do some digging. You can likely find the seals needed to fix yours if its just leaky, not worn out.
Get the casting number off it, should be on top, then google that number steering box.

How bad does it leak? I had a manual box that leaked some especially in the higher heat of the summer. The box was really good but I just put in some light grease and it worked great with no leaking. Could buy you some time if indeed you have to replace it.
Last time I saw one of those leaking, it was because someone had the "great" idea of filling it with power steering fluid instead of the grease that's supposed to be used.

I just bought a rebuild kit from Bowtie classic. It came Friday, I haven't opened it yet. Manual or PS 58 -64 all the same.
To follow up, the rebuild went smooth but won't know for sure until it's back on the road in about 2 yrs. I packed it with Lucas, Red 'N Tacky grease, from Canadian Tire. This could have someone's first time picking up wrenches and the instructions and photos are so detailed that anyone could have followed them.
