I bought a 1948 Fleetleader, with the 239 C.I. six, and the engine had been seized and unstuck by the previous owner before I bought it. The head was still off and yesterday I started cleaning up the valves and pistons, and then under all this crud I found a crack going from the valves and down the cylinder wall. This was on the bad cylinder that was stuck and had all the rust. The rest of the engine inside looks really good though
Just wondering, is it worth fixing? Would StopLeak fix it?
Also this engine is painted black, and all the other ones I've seen online are a blue-green colour. Is this a Canadian colour? Or would it have been repainted?
I would agree with that. A crack that goes to the outside of the block from freezing can sometimes be repaired, the cylinder crack can be repaired but as stated once it carries away from the cylinder it's time to find a different block.
