$75 to Canadian Poncho- Fine Bone China - Royal Albert Lavender Rose c. 1961

I am hoping someone on board shares my interst in Fine Bone China and recognizes a top value when they see it. I acquired this "set" first to save it from the garbage and secondly move it along so I can give the money to my developmentally handicapped cousin who just lost her mother. She has lived with her mom for 51 years and now she is completely lost and being uprooted from the only home she knows. Family members charged with her care have decended on the house and began the purge. When I received a telephone call telling me her mother's china was on the curb for garbage day I immediately drove down and saved it. I had no idea what I would find but suffice to say I was shocked when I opened the boxes.

Offered here is Vintage 1961 Fine Bone China - Royal Albert Lavender Rose, Made in England. $1,089 OBO for lot

I will refer to this as a "set"  but through the passage of time some pieces are missing and some were never acquired. This is a long discontinued vintage pattern made in England to exacting standards. Here's what is here:

Dinner plates - 12

Salad Plates 11

Bread and Butter plates - 12

Saucers -12

Cups - 11

demitasse cup - 1

demitasse saucers -2

Coffee Pot - 1

Tray for creamer and open sugar - 1

Creamer - 1

Open Sugar -1

I will sell the Coffee pot  tray, creamer and Sugar for $375 and I will consider pieces on request. clearly the value of the set diminishes as I sell off pieces.

I am not experienced nor equipped to ship this so please I will request pick up in Toronto, I am literally in the City proper with easy access off the major highways, QEW DVP, 401 and 404.

As per my usual practice a significant  donation of $75 will be made to the Canadian Poncho Site on a successful sale.

That's beautiful, Ray, and an admirable cause for you to save it plus help the site.

I wish you good luck with it.  If you run out of options there are dealers who buy and sell this sort of thing, but probably at pennies on the dollar.  A better option than throwing it out, though.

My wife and her mother have both collected china patterns over the years, so I do have an appreciation for the quality of those pieces that you are selling.

Thnaks MC, that's great to hear.  I love this set, tempted to keep it but it comes down to room. I already have two sets that we collected and in fact use a modern set as everyday dishes Mikasa Trellis. Funnily enough my daighter and son were tidying up the china hutch a week ago and found a creamer from my Minton Bridal Veil set broken, I already replaced it from a dealer out of Winnipeg but it was $90 with delivery so these pieces are quite valued and collectible.

I know $1,600 sounds like a lot but if I priced out everything individually it would exceed that number. My Mikasa 12 place setting cost me exactly $1,600, two boxes of 6 settings from the Bay 3 years ago and as I said we use it everyday. A vintage set like this Royal Albert has a lot more value. I thought to offer it here hoping for a quick sale however turning it over to a dealer or me just buying it is likely what will happen.

Good save. Unfortunately beautiful family treasures end up in the trash quite often nowadays.cry

Yeah so true.  My mom has the almost identical set, just a little different pattern.  I probably bought at least 3/4 of it over the years as a kid as it was the go to gift for her birthday, mother's day, and Christmas.  We had lots of big meal settings back then, not so much now.     Not sure if any of my kids will be interested in it or not.

It's ashame the way family reacts to a death, the executor, my wife's sister, is like a vulcher with the house tossing everything out because she wants to get it staged and listed ASAP. If she knew I had this set it would be WW III. My wife was the executor but that was changed when she passed away.

To Jerel's point, none of my children were interested in this and even my daughters' in-laws while her MIL loved it took a pass. I'ts definitely a niche market and something from a by-gone era. Everyone I show though remarks on its beauty. Geez, I'm talking myself onto it!

Actually these item do seem to sell for a surprising amount on ebay - especially some of the more elaborate items like the coffee pot and teapot

I did a search in ebay in sold listings and here are some recent results

sorry having troulble getting the second link to work

anyway just putting this out there - I know you have mentioned you are not interested in doing shipping and prefer personal pickup

Perhaps there is someone in your family who would like to take that on

i am really grateful by all the interest in my thread. These things are as valuable as vintage car parts! Maybe more.

Almost like collecting hockey cards. Some fine china items in some sets are rare and have a single purpose and are hard to come by.

Especially true for antique silverware as well.

After working a couple Summers at our Waste Watch (dump), I was amazed and saddened by what I saw thrown away.

The small town of Okotoks just outside of Calgary has the right idea.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/okotoks-recycling-program-1.3719698

They make well over $500,000. each year since they have started.

One of my favourite spots to go.

Bought a leaf blower for $1.00 and fixed it for $14. in parts.

Found a unused plastic model kit of a 53 Ford truck for $2.00,Go-Pro for $10.00 with three batteries, a 8mm projector for $10.00

not to mention all the CDs,DVDs for a $1.00.

My son the film maker goes there to buy props and and clothing for actors.

Cheap, great way for the town to make cash and keeps the stuff out of the landfill.

Every municipality in Canada should do the same as Okotoks.

Collectibles, especially sports cards are making a comeback. While I collected the 50s and 60s original 6 now the young entrepreneurs are dealing in 80's sports cards and memoriabilia.

Ray, sorry for your loss. Beautiful stuff, I can relate to this situation in a few different ways. We had some family doing a estate purge, same circumstances. They gave away some valuable things, like a 1960's Coke cooler... I am still burning from that news. I've had the conversation with my wife about car parts and other stuff I've collected, so that things like valuable NOS parts are not just thrown in a dumpster when I pass on.

Best of luck with the sale.
