Hi Calvin,

Congratulations on a great  looking new ride. And a Happy  New Year to you. I must be getting old because the thought of a fifty year old girl with 20 year old paint would normally put some fear into me. Buying a car that way doesnt. I like those wheels/tires on that car.  If you decide you want the Torque Thrusts let me know . That was a well written and told story. Excellent news about the Camaro going back home. Sorry I can not say when Olive will be headed back to youre garage , but she will be offered to you first. What happened to the redneck father in law? Hopefully he is still spooling the hoops out of a pub in someone elses car. I am looking for some studded snow tires for Olive if you come across any. My all seasons are a bit treacherous with all this snow we have had.

All the best,

Gerry

super nice 69. I think we have chatted before, and I knew your old 68 rag top for many years even before Rick W had it...the Packard family in Med Hat owned it for many many years. My high school friend Todd F has a red 69 SD 396 clone convertible here in Med Hat...It was kind of twist of fate that I came across my 68 convertible...as I was Todds best man at his wedding...Now two old friends...share Beaumont Convertibles in Med Hat.

I was quite surprised to decipher my convertible only to see that it was a Code A black car...originally. And you may find it interesting that my 68 was actually sold at Carter Motors in Kelowna BC when new....so another BC car! I do have alot of work ahead of me for sure to get this car back to a realistic state. I am not looking for perfection, I like some character spots, so my 68 will not achieve 100 point status, that is not my goal. I do however like to keep things very GM. I am a fan of keeping things orderly and as the factory would have done. I like to think that perhaps instead of GM creating only 65 1968 Beaumont SD 396 convertibles.....mine might be number 66??? I have been recently obsessed with finding the correct pieces required to add the big block to this Convertible. I have scoured countless pictures, videos, and assembly manuals to ensure that when this is all installed....it will be very legit. Of course numbers matching....it will not be....but that was long ago changed forever by others. I dont mean to bore you to death of my Beaumont journey....but again, you definitely have the Beaumont bug...so few of us do.

Are you talking about the actual Beaumont assembly book? The reason I'm asking is, I have these for sale and many people mistake the service manual or the parts manual as being the assembly manual.

In case we are not talking about the same thing, this thread shows it-

Thank you for the clarification on the manual subject. I have looked at your previous posts about the assembly manual, and it does add alot of information indeed. Thank you for reaching out. I am absolutely interested in having this sort of detail. I am currently searching for the correct wire routing for the factory indash Tachometer...I want to ensure the wiring is exiting the interior correctly. Please send me the information I need to purchase this publication.

Hey Gerry, great to hear from you!! Was wondering how long it would take you to finally join this site.   Thanks for the congrats and others on here have patiently listened to me pine over getting Olive back but I know she's in good hands with you until she returns home wink.  If you have technical questions of any sort the whole group on this site is super friendly and helpful!!  Unfortunately the Red Neck father inlaw passed away from Cancer a number of years ago and yes the snows will serve you well and will go well with the hood scoop you installed....I think others will pick up on your sense of humor soon biggrin

Take care,

Calvin

Thanks so much Wayne, I'm proud to be her new care taker.   That's really cool about knowing my previous 68 Convertible, I was wondering if you knew her seeing as you are from Medicine Hat too.  Snostorm who posted here for the first time is the current owner though I've been bugging Gerry to let me bring her home ever since ha ha but I was glad it was him that has her now.   I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing more about your car and don't worry you won't bore me to death at all, I love hearing all the little details and I'm sure many others on this site do too!

I recall many years ago, very near my home actually, there was a fellow I knew as Mr Packard....he owned his own trucking company called Packard Transport here in Med Hat....He had your old 68 vert for many years....as the story goes, your 68 was leased by a local doctor here in Med Hat...and it was a short term lease....and he turned the car in, only to pick up a new 69 vert...a red one...that my friend Todd F now owns...and has owned for almost 40 yrs now... It isnt exactly clear whether Mr Packard had owned your 68 since 1969 or not....but...sometime back in the late 90s...to early 2000s....Mr Packard was looking to retire and sell off his toys....and that is when he advertized the 68 for sale locally. I had went to see the car at his house, and looked it over...was the original bench seat column shifter 307....he had like house carpet on the floors...it needed a new top....and was looking pretty sad....and at the time, he was asking like 5 grand....it was far too much at that time to pay. But low and behold....along came Rick W....with pockets full of greenhouse owner cash....and he paid the price....wow. Rick played with that car alot...he had alot of stuff done...and my guess is that he took a loss on it when he sold it. Then after Rick....I sort of lost track of it....and I believe you had purchased it...and took it away.

That is pretty much the history that I recall of that 68 Vert....Now...at least....I brought a 68 Vert.....back to Medicine Hat....lol
