Hi all, just saw a bunch of posts about cars on Saltspring. I live here and there are some awesome rust free cars here that have been restored and are driving around in the good weather. My 66 came from the Fraser Valley and has very little rust considering its 54 yrs old! The frame is as solid as the day it was made and the rust is limited to the trunk floor, small holes in rear of front fenders and rear quarters. Being a panel beater i see this as just part and parcel of restoring an old car.
The good news is I got her running today! She smoked a lot and purrs like a kitten. Will put a new carb on this week and start the disc brake conversion. I took a video but can't seem to upload it from my phone. Anyone have this problem?

Glad to hear it fired up & ran! If it's running smooth and not rattling (lifters or bottom end) there's a good chance the smoke will clear up. Got to burn off the fluids you put in to loosen it up, and the rings might be gummed up a bit.
Running it for a bit might clean them up and allow them to seat again.
If it idles good, doesn't bog when you accelerate, and runs smooth when the throttle is opened up, I'd be looking at the source of your leak to see if you can solve that without tearing the carb down - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
