Wow that looks familiar! That was my home for about 8 years. Good memories...

Hey Kevin this is great stuff on a number of levels!

I don't think we ever had a real solid number of L72's installed documented before so this is really good to see.

8  wow!

So this means of the 5147 66 Grande Parisienne 2 doors built, there were 782 with the 396, 56 with the 390 horse 427 and 8 with the 425 horse 427 for a total of 846 big block Grande 2 doors. (16.5 percent of installations.)  If we had a guy who had the number for 327's or 283's in these we'd have the whole breakdown.

Also remember I have a pretty good bodied parts Grande. Same colour and interior although that is mostly gone and some other stuff I probably won't use. Better send an even bigger trailer!

You're going to be a busy guy!

Here is some of what Wiki has to say about the L72 427.

Chevrolet L72

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The L72 was a Big-Block engine produced by Chevrolet between 1966 and 1969. Initially rated at 450 horsepower, the rating dropped to 425 hp (317 kW) shortly after its release (although there was no change in power). In 1966 it was the most powerful engine available in the Corvette, and between 1966 and 1969 was the most powerful engine available in full-sized models. In 1969 the L72 was available via a Central Office Production Order (COPO) in Chevrolet's intermediate (Chevelle) and pony car (Camaro). Today these vehicles - referred to as COPOs - are among the most collectible 1960s performance cars.

She has a 2 barl Holley on her. She "sailed" down the HWY quite nicely at 60 mph. Just need to fix the exhaust leak so Mark doesn't commit suicide on the way back. Will give her a going over in the next bit.

so in pursuit of a 66 GP i talked to a collector here in Ontario and he tells me in the 60s he used to work at a gas station and Friday nights he had 4 guys show up in this 427 GP with a case of beer between the guys in the back, tank up and head to the city with both tires smoking as they left the station. He ran into the guy and asked him about the car and what happen to it . He said the car was an L72 he sold to a young guy in 1970 and that guy wrote the car off. With the information he gave me I tracked down the paper work on this car. IT was the same colour in and out as the one Jim purchased for me right down to the vinyl roof so I am going to build a tribute to that car.

Now I'll be able to say I know a guy who bought a 4 speed shifter and built a car around it!

Kevin, aiways wondered if GM Canada built any L-72 66 Cdn B Body Pontiacs, seen the parts listings in the GM Canada Pontiac parts catalogues, but never had heard of any real ones ! Thanks for sharing!

On a side note. From the sellers mentality.... So I ask for a receipt for the sale of the car. I still have the transfer papers singed but always nice to have a piece of paper to keep for looking back on from when you purchased the car. Still have mine for the 57 and 66. So.... he writes.....received $$$$$$ for a 66 Perisienne. No date, no vin, no name.....I just gave up and asked if he could at least sign it.......no Wonder why it took so long to purchase!

I took over 3 months to buy my Corvette and even a month with my G80 from a new car dealer who offers set pricing on the car. (LOL)

As a strategy I don't mind dragging things out like that as I wait for my adversary to come to me. In this case you waited him out and got him to surrender, good stuff.

Not so much as a surrender..just think the guy lost or forgot what he was selling. Sure wish you guys would have met him...lasting impression.....
