Does anyone know what the proper air cleaner decal is for a 1965 340 horse 409? mine is there but completely unreadable. Ordered one for a 1965 Impala but it is more square than rectangular. Mine appears to be more the size of a valve cover decal.
On my brothers 1965 409 car I don't recall any specific callout on the chrome aircleaner back when he got it. Since then he has put a Chevy one on but is not quite correct. Looks like your decal is just the usual one about servicing that was on the side of Canadian poncho aircleaners.

If not that, maybe its like a decal I used to get my license plate done? Yours has some black left, not sure a regular air cleaner decal had that much black on it? On the other hand , mine may be done off a valve cover gasket.

Im really thinking by the look of mine they used the 409 Turbofire valve cover decal from the Chevy engine. Wish there was a bit more of mine left. I cant see them making a special decal for afew Canadian 409s

I hope that I have built up enough credibility on this site to weigh in on a 409 question. I have done numerous threads in the past based on extensive research of sales literature and empirical evidence of field cars and salvage cars and survivor cars. One such thread I completed in 2009 is in the Library and it is a comprehensive documentation of engine sizes and names used by GM Canada on the Canadian Ponchos. This thread has been updated over the years as more accurate information surfaced and became available. I am satisfied that it is the most accurate compilation of GM Canada branding names used on Canadian Pontiacs, Acadians and Beaumonts. You can access this highly informative thread HERE
Canadian Pontiac's branded the 409 as SUPER FLAME not the Chevrolet name Turbo-Fire.
The Pontiac decal appears here, and there was not a factory applied Horsepower decal on the Air Cleaner but you could generally find displacement and the standard instructional decal or screened details about the AC filter and service intervals on the air cleaner.

Looking closer at my decal it could possibly be 409 Superflame. As far as valve cover decals Im pretty sure mine never had any.Ive owned this car for over 40 years and there never was a trace of anything on the valve covers. Thanks this helps alot.
Very good information but that 409 image has a Chevy Bowtie on the valve cover?
I have knowledge of Chevy x frames and the 348-409, but am lacking knowledge of the Canadian Pontiacs.

Indeed the illustration with the chrome valve cover has embossed bowtie. It is generally accepted that sales literature and salesman literature does contain errors and oversights especially in the illustrations. Remember this printed material is put together many months in advance of production.
Almost always production Pontiac 409s came with smooth valve covers and no Chevrolet branding embossed. Imagine the production nightmare at the plant in making sure the handful of 409s got Pontiac branding, now imagine the quality control over such a miniscule number of cars and engines. Imagine needing a valve cover replacement for some reason two or three years into ownership. It is little wonder we see mix ups in parts and decals.
Don't know if this will help, but here are my original ones from my 64 409. Brian
I knew you had the goods Brian.

That is really a great keepsake you have Brian, but more than that a historical record. To be sure, these are valve cover decals, correct? Can you comment on Air cleaner decal if any on your dual quad 409.
Hey Ray, These are the valve cover decals, mine was a 2x4 425hp. The air cleaner just had the 409 decal, no decal on the removable top. Chevy had one with a VEE around it. My dual inlet air cleaner and top was chrome like the valve covers. Brian
