Hood hinges, is there a trick?


I cannot seem to get the back drivers corner of the hood to sit down. The hinge is as low as it can go on the 3 bolts. I had the springs off the hinges last year, and they are not worn at the pivot pins.

Am I working in the wrong direction? What is this voodoo?

I have had luck with loosening the bolts and pushing the front of the hood up and then tighten up the bolts. A lot easier with two people.

You can also place a shim under the hood on the FRONT hinge bolt. Trick works every time.

MY BEAUMONT HAS 4 STUDDED TIRES AND 2 BLOCKHEATERS......AND LOTS OF OIL UNDERNEATH.  The other one has a longer roof.

this is an old thread, but the trick is the front of the hinge needs to come UP for the back of the hood to go down. Seems counterintuitive, but that's what you need to do.

I've actually been to lazy to have tried anything. I'll try the front down method and report back, thanks Mark.

 Mark.. I had the EXACT problem. And that is how you fix it, NEED two guys. Mark the hinge position with a pencil/grease pencil first. Loosen the bolts, (just the "high"side) push up, tighten back one first, then the front bolt

*****NOTE....Use masking tape around the edges of the hood, fender and cowl.  

THEN CLOSE THE HOOD VERY CAREFULLY, VERY. THE HOOD MAY TOUCH THE COWL.

If it is close then you need to check the pencil marks and redo the process.... might take more than one shot at it. Now check the front......

I'm glad this discussion came up....I bought the ol girl with raised hood and I've tried adjusting the hinges several times since we've owned her- no luck- all seams line up well just have the lifted DS as with yours.  Good to hear some advice on this I'm looking forward to trying the suggestions.  Thanks!

Better late than never. I decided to try that front up method...And what do you know, it worked just as Paul and Mark described it would.

 

I loosened the forward bolt, and pushed up really hard on the front of the hood, tightening the bolt.

Had just a tad more down room on the rear two, but it was difficult for some reason to get it right down. Loosened the bolts, a little pry down across the fender flange to the hinge mount did the trick.

 

Voodoo be gone...
