Sadly that is likely top dollar for it. Tall deck engines have very little value to anyone except truck guys. The crank and rods are good for car engines but the rest is pretty much throwaway.

You can get a big cube stroker out of those engines. intakes and distributors are a pain though....

The distributor is just a common length Philip. Or did you mean because some of them use a different tang on the oil pump shaft? That can be rectified by just swapping on the common drive gear.

So I can see how the truck 427 would be less desirable than the car version for many reasons, but the way it's being talked about is almost like it would be considered 'junk'. Is it really that bad? Like say if somebody wanted to toss a big block into their car but didn't want to pay the big bucks that a numbers 427 would take to get the correct engine for their car, is it unusable?
I ask because I'm really not all that familiar with them. I know truck engines are designed/tuned for the low end torque requirements that a truck has to haul loads, but other than higher rpm operation (which I would suggest most old car owners don't push anyhow), what would be the disadvantage of a truck engine in an old car? One would think that a suitable cam could be selected to change the power characteristics to a certain extent. Similarly, exhaust improvements could be made. A wider intake manifold might make things difficult if there aren't any options out there, though.
