Got the VVS doc for the 65.

Kind of a stripper. But hey, only 1575 made.

Questions;

Confused about trim 219 being identified as black? I know 100% the seats were Blue. Is this a misprint?

And do they not include the original buyers name anymore?

C14... Is there a lesser wiper group than this? Perhaps it represents the 2 speed wiper?

pontiac.jpg

Familiar with Davies Woodbridge? Anyone with a Davies dealer emblem willing to part?

Thanks, Mark

I dont know my interior trim codes very well but i would say that either the code number or the color was a misprint

And C14 use to be listed as 2speed wipers with washers,  which would be the upgrade option from single speed with no washers.  But most canadian built cars got C14,   the singles with no washers are very very comon in these years in the usa.

Most importantly why does the serial number have a B in the middle of it?  or did you just photoshop that?

They've never included the original buyers name. That can be attained at the Ontario DMV.

Nope, it's a very late build.  July 30 1965 for a 1965 model year car.

I don't recall seeing anything like that in a 65 VIN either. Can some other 65 B body owners see if there VIN looks like that? Wasn't Oshawa "O" in the VIN?

Thats what i thought too Carl.  But i dont know my 65 Bbody canadians that well.

Could it have something to do with the ULTRA late season build?  like over 10,000 units and some different numbers/letters were in play???

Chevelles and beaumonts it was always numbers only

Calling Dano,  how do the canadian 65 Impala Serials look???

I'm super curious now why it has a B. My memory bank is trying to tell me we discussed this on here a few years back but maybe for a few years newer Pontiac B bodies?

Mark, thanks for posting that. We never had production numbers for that model before, so I added it to the production number thread.

No probs. It interesting to see the take on it.

As far as the trim code, I found a decoder for the USA 65 cars. And I see this below in the Catalina column of that decoder. Then I compare my tag (top 219), and another tag I kept an image of, (220) Turquoise.

According to the coder, black would be 233 ?, and I dont think black ever came in vinyl/cloth in the Catalina/Laurentian, just solid vinyl. More research needed, and a 1965 black CP trim code.

Turns out the Registry here agrees that trim 219 is Blue.

And Black was not available in the Laurentian,

I would phone him and request a reprint with the corrections made

I had to do that for a 67 beaumont survivor i owned about 15 years ago,  they typoed the engine serial number with one digit missing in the middle

George made the correction and issued me a reprint no problem.

And a different chart to back up the fact that the document has a mistake on it.

I'll give them a call for sure. Thanks. Ill try to ask him about the "B" in the serial as well.

I'm also wondering about the dealer name. Davies Pontiac Buick Ltd, Woodbridge Ont. Anyone ever hear of it? I have heard of Davis but not Davies.

Only 12 numeric characters in the VIN of my 65 CS on the GMVVS documents. But we know the 7th digit should be the letter O or B or M

Here's the page from the 58 - 69 parts catalog ( no 692 ) that shows a B or M is possible.

65 Pontiac VIN from parts book.jpg

When having the trim code corrected there will be a real opportunity to question why the B or M might have been used.

Interesting that it mentions 66 could be also. I've only ever seen "O" in 66 and I've owned my fair share of them! Weird.

Looking at the docs again.  is it just me or what is the correct model #.    75511 or 7511???   it shows both on the docs does it not????

Also, because of the late build dat, i am going to venture a guess that the "B" is used in place of the "O" once over 10,000 units are built, or atleast something like that.

We had a huge discussion on that when the registry was in full swing. When I was gathering everyone tag I could find, Fred remarked on that and in the original registry, this morning, I counted 17 for 1965 and 33 for 1966, 14 in which I spotted. The tread is back there somewhere. Not sure if a real reason was ever uncovered.

You're right Dave it does. I was just talking to George at VVS and he is going to correct the 7511 in the doc. to a 75511, along with trim 219 being "Blue" not black.

I did ask about the mystery random "B" in the vin, and he really doesn't know why, but says he's going to try to uncover the reason. It's not a date or sequence thing as it shows up pretty random through the year.

Our first documented B code was Nov 5 of '64. That wasn't the reason in this case. I wonder if there was an issue down the line and it was set off to be repaired at a later date?

Nov.5th 1964    B76469     V8            V    (248 fawn)  Sask.           link
#708590         Parisienne 4dr   Cameo Beige                   spotted 67poncho

In 1966, this was the first B code. Oddly, both documented by yours truly!

Sept.15th 1965     B75569      6 cyl       2D   (506 blue)   spotted by 67poncho
#700780       Laurentian 4 dr          Mist blue met.          saskatchewan

So we have a few examples of the B code existing but I take it that no M codes have yet surfaced.

I'm also thinking that the VIN and data plates are created before the vehicle is scheduled for the production line. This would mean it wasn't a redo off the line, or would they go to the trouble to retag it if pulled off the line for some reason?

Make mental note to self: Check VIN and data plates on every 65 or 66 you see to try an help explain this anomaly.
