1958 stratochief fender work

Didn`t take as may pics as i should have. Drivers side fender. Above the headlights is aluminum tape covered in body filler. Above the trim on the lower front in front of the wheel well is the same, as in the back lower corner in front of the door. The brace is rusted thru for the lowest 4 inches, and the nut that holds that corner to the car is welded/brazed/ and broken.F786E336-2A20-4547-8494-548E13442076.jpeg

Finished front half Next post. Needs filler and some hammer & dolly work. Need to take photos of the reconstructed headlight area. Still looking for a bucket- any GM dual bucket will do. Anyone?

Not much to work with when you started into that fender - good job saving it. You're earning your handle: Eggwelder.

What years of buckets are the same? I have a set from a 62.

Not sure what ones are identical, if any to a 58. The bucket stamping itself should be the same though, and i can make that work. If they are set wider apart its no issue, i can narrow it. if the headlights are bigger then i can`t use them

Thank you 66 Beau. Wait till you see what passes for the floor, hood inside bracing, and rockers.

Next project after this fender will be the passenger fender- couple dents and a touch of other work- a cakewalk compared to this one.

Looked in my books, found Cdn Pontiac for 59 and 60, Chevy for 59 and 62, Id say the 58 Cdn Pontiac may be 1 year only.

Heh Jon, I'm over on Facebook Canadian Pontiac and have asked about 58 Headlamp parts for you.

I got a reply with someone who knows where there could be a good source of 58 parts in BC.

If interested, PM me with a number this guy can reach you at, he might have everything you need. I'll PM Mike Heavens with your number, or just come on the Facebook and reply directly with Mike.

Well, decided to redo the top patch on the driver fender. Watched a Wray Wellin (spelling?) on using the English wheel and figured I can do that too. Had an Eastwood wheel kit laying around for last 12 years so I finally made the frame this past fall. Never used a wheel before- I did mess around with it for an hour or so. Need a tipping wheel now unless someone knows how to turn the flange without one. Ill probably Fitzee the flange on this one. Will also be the first patch I TIG weld in as well. So I should be confident enough for that in another week or two of practicing not blowing holes.
