looking to verify if the 239 cid flathead 6 engine in the Canadian built 1953 Pontiac Pathfinder is identical to the Engine in the US built 1953 Pontiac Chieftain? Thanks.

I asked that question of a guy that drove into a mall in his, I want to say, '52. He told me that prior to '55 they used the flathead 239, same as the U.S. Probably the best verification is via an old GM Canada Pontiac parts book that spans 1949-53.

Anybody have that manual?

I have a 1950 Silver Streak with that model of engine the L6239 cu in.  I checked both of my manuals no luck

The Maintenance manual that I have is for series 2000 - 2200 cars and it goes from 1949 to 1950.

The second manual is a parts catalogue (as written on cover) No 327 ( chassis ) and it covers 1937 to 1951.

Sorry , I can't confirm , but I can ask around, I know some pretty knowledgeable older gentlemen.

I just picked up a 195Canadian Pontiac brochure after visiting Arcadian at the International Center today. The brochure starts with the base Pathfinder, progresses to Pathfinder Deluxe then Laurentian. Each is listed as 6 cylinder only. It then goes on with the U.S-sourced Chieftain Special (6 or 8), Chieftain Deluxe (6 or 8), and the Star Chief Custom (8 cyl).

The engine specs are listed for the Pontiac flathead 239 six & the Pontiac flathead 268 straight eight. No difference whether the six goes into a Canadian-built Pontiac or a U.S.-built one.

Cars with automatics got higher compression ratios; Powerglide went into Canadian Pathfinder, Pathfinder Deluxe & Laurentian with 239 sixes; U.S. sourced cars used the dual range Hydramatic behind 239 six and 268 straight eight.
