65 Parisienne Ignition switch fitment


Does anyone have a photo or diagram of how the ignition switch mounts in the dash? I have the outside retainer ring and the inner sleeve but I feel like there is a piece missing. When I mount the switch it sticks out a 1/4 inch past the outer ring and looks ridiculous. The pic shows the pieces I have. Thanks

Are you fitting the sleeve on the switch first, notch lining up, then placing it through the opening?

Yes I am. even with the sleeve on and locking into the notch, there is still a half inch of threaded potion sticking through the dash. It is as if there is a spacer missing behind the dash.

Maybe your back spacer is backwards? Beyond that, it must be the incorrect switch.

That's the pic I needed thank you. I am starting to think it is the wrong switch. The threaded portion is just way too long.

 Also think that may be the case. I have seen these switches with the extended thread, although no idea why. I may have a spare switch that I can check and post the measurements.

So this is not the switch that was in the vehicle previously? It is a replacement you've bought? Are there any numbers right on the switch? Probably a three digit number is what would be on there. If you can post that I can look it up for you.

 When we bought the car the switch was out and hanging from the harness under the dash. I presume now because it was replaced. A spacer would work for sure or I was thinking a retainer nut on the back of the dash that could be used to adjust depth and ultimately lock it into position so it doesn't spin when the key is turned. I think I can make it work, just wanted to make sure I wasn't simply missing a piece.

Is the snap on electrical connector correct- just in case you get the correct one for your year car and someone switched the connector to suit the switch that is wrong.

 I see the issue now. The length is the same but mine is threaded almost all the way to the base. The locking tab on yours is about an inch. Mine is about 1/4 inch. Clearly I have the wrong switch.
