I posted this a few days ago in one of your other posts asking about this block.
Can you post a picture of the stamped numbers on the front passenger side head?
Casting numbers of the heads + date codes, pics of those too.
What are the cast numbers on the block, at top of rear of the block, post pics of those too.
My experience is with 60s and earlier blocks in cars and trucks, not marine. It would be helpful to see all the numbers you can find.
Are you asking for this due to curiosity or to try to find an engine to match your Holden?

trying to get a correct engine for my Holden. I have worked out this one as mid 74 engine heads as well . Ill get some picks for you . Mainly the neat stamped number , likely from a machine. Maybe a precursor to a bar number.
The numbers on the front of the passenger (driver side in your country) were a date code amd what it was built as, ie, same casting number small block could be built as a solid lifter high hp fuel injected engine, or a 2 barrel low hp engine. The heads would be different, intake, and maybe exhaust manifolds or cam. All the casting and date codes can confirm all the parts likely came out of the factory together and were matching, as opposed to put together later from many sources.
We are car guys, not marine guys, mercruiser is fairly unique setups.

As others have said, if it definitely is a 1974 cast date engine (McKinnon/St Catharines have this on the side) then its a 1974 full size TH400 L48 or LM1 which are basically the same engine that was put in HQ Holden or Statesman in Australia in 1974. Those final 350 HQ engines even changed colour to Holden engine red and used standard North American Chevrolet Quadrajets (up until August 1973 the carbs had unique Australian numbers).
The block will always be a "tribute" only though as the engine number suffix and the other number are wrong for a Holden or Statesman but it will also be a lot cheaper!
