Finally the radio delete

A year or two ago I was fortunate enough to have Mark (cdnpont) being willing to give up the radio delete plate from his 65. It was something I wanted to do on my 66 from the day I bought it. The radio always seemed to be out of place in such a plain jane car.

Now, my question. Since I was a GM dealer employee for 40 years, can I claim this as a dealer deleted accesory? Guys always have their documented cars with "dealer installed" options/accessories. biggrin

Thanks Mark, I'm real happy with how it looks.

Looks good !

I have only ever seen one 1969 with a radio delete.

Almost bought the car just for that option.

Walked away because of the frame.

It looks good Carl, but the dual USB outlet in the cigarette lighter looks a bit out of place

Not really sure what you are asking about the radio. On the base model car the radio would have been an extra cost option, not a deleted option. There were dealers near me in he 70s that rarely ordered a radio in a new base model vehicle. The reasoning was they would install an aftermarket radio for a customer because it would probably be cheaper than the factory installed radio. On many vehicles to get a radio installed on the assembly line it would be part of an option bundle, not just the radio.

That's my volt meter. The factory ammeter is an ornament, no power running to it.

Now that I get a good look at your radio delete plate, I might have one of those. Or at least have seen one recently, I wasn't sure what year it was for.

Here's the clock / heater / radio delete plates in my 70 Parisienne.

The woodgrain mismatch of the heater control delete isn't as noticeable when the car is outside in natural light.

It would be the same for 65-66

I'm glad you installed the delete plate Carl, it's a rare piece to be sure.

I can get 3 stations in AM down here now that do classic music. So the AM radio isn't a total loss. Plus it looks nice in the dash.
