He said "Nobody would believe this is how it was done originally"

I could be wrong, but I think there were only about 250, 4 speed, B-bodies built in Oshawa that year.

Based on low model experience I had in my career,

"Get a guy to do that off line" the bosses would say.

We had guys who would cut a hole or weld a bracket, anywhere the cops wanted it.

Another member showed me a saved floor section with the same cut, last year, after my car arrived.

As I was concerned that this was a back yard cut wink

 I believe so. It's the same on all the models, full size, Beaumonts, Acadians etc and the US cars are the same way. I see it discussed on different forums and sometimes guys say "I bought this car, was told it was a factory 4 speed but there's no way it is, someone hacked in the 4 speed."

Wow!  This surprises me as I would have expected there to be a specially stamped tunnel piece for 4-speed cars. 

Were early to mid-1960s cars done the same?  If not, then perhaps by 1969 the market for 4-gear cars was known to be small, so it was more cost-effective to just hack it out, since the customer would most likely never see it anyhow.  Still surprised, either way.

 It is missing the padding & upholstery, and it needs to be bolted down. wink If it were a military Jeep, those seat frames would be covered in the cloth from a potato sack and that is that. nod.gif

Yes.

When the interior guy was stripping the seat, he removed the inner bracket, he reinstalled it backwards.

Gave the body shop a heart attack when the holes did not line up biggrin

The base will be sandblasted in the next batch, before recovering.

Seeing that torched out tunnel opening makes me think we were dealing with a different time, a time before liability laws were so prevalent. Did mechanics ever wear gloves back in those days? Many U.S. factories built cars with only primer covering the exterior floors, you might get 3 rust-belt winters before deep rust occurs. I guess that high up the tunnel and shielded by the transmission, and possibly even spritzed by motor oil drips, it was not any concern. How many people needed tetanus shots after trying to install a Hurst shifter?

So, we have reached a point.

School's out for summer !

Brought the car home for a few months today.

Dodged the storms. 

Only rained as we were unloading.

There are some pretty demanding customers out there.

They can have their deadlines.

I keep my budget as the priority biggrin

The next part of the build begins

Loaded up a pile of stuff to be blasted.

This project needs professionals so the load went to Franklins in Woodstock. 

These guys are awesome with any blasting.

At some point, frame #2 will be for sale but it won't go cheap !

Here is a stumper for you,

The October 1968 frame is 60 to 80 pounds heavier than the March 1969 one.

You have to see it to believe it.

There is no Manitoba Mud left inside the 2+2 frame wink

In about four weeks the 2+2 frame will be off for repair,

They will be stored off location until then.

VIN should be on top of the left rear frame rail, but seems to move around. I didn't find anything on the frame I did in 2014.

4 speed frame is off to the body shop for prep and paint.

Body goes Monday or Tuesday.

The goal is to have the car 95% done by April 2024.

Tried an experiment today,

I took the Firebird/LeMans 14 inch hubcaps and switched out the centre with Canadian Poncho "Pontiac" centres.

I had been wondering if they would fit.

One of those thoughts that keep you up at night biggrin

Exact fit !

Now they are very close to the original caps.

One more twist in the debate of going original 14" drums or 15" rallys.

 I tried this years ago and it appears there is no 14" wheel in existence that will clear the disc brakes on a 69 Canadian Pontiac.

I am 90% sure I am going with 15-inch rally wheels with small centers but it's nice to have a plan if I change my mind. 

For disc, Eric supplied all the hard-to-find stuff but I will need calipers, rotors, proportioning valve and master cylinder.

For Drum, I have everything including those N.O.S drums Mark gave me years ago biggrin

The body has been reunited with the frame.

This is a temporary step as the fenders and hood will be lined up and repaired.

This is the original 2+2 frame with the serial number proudly stamped on it and will be used despite the problems caused by previous enjoyment.

The ugly welds will get cleaned up after the frame is taken back off.

And, now we have to fix the new crack I found today blankstare
