Nothing too special about it, other than it's the first 6 cylinder Cutlass of that vintage that I can recall seeing. It was for sale in NS in the spring or summer summer for $6500, now $8500. The NS ad had a pic of the engine compartment, and the six was the standard Chevrolet unit, painted Oldsmobile gold.
For some reason my live links don't seem to be working, so here's the URL to copy/paste: http://oldcarbrochures.org/United%20States/Oldsmobile/1968_Oldsmobile/196ldsmobile-Salemens-Specs/slides/1968_Oldsmobile_Salesmens_Specs-05.html
It may not work because the "8", "-" and "O" together turn it into an "omg" emoticon... If you post the URL to see the link, replace "omg.gif" with "8 - O" together with no spaces. The auto emoticons can be annoying sometimes.... Same probably applies to the ad link below, as it also has "eight dash O" in the URL.

I friend of mine had a 70 Cutlass with a 6. The fan blew apart and one blade cut through the hood. As for live links you need to use the Link icon which gives you options as to whether you want the link to open a new window or not plus you can have it put different text then the link like "CLICK HERE" etc.
What year did they stop putting the Buick V6 in these cars? The one that got sold to the Brits and went into Rovers and Range Rovers? I remember seeing those all the time.

That must have been something to see!
Regarding the live links, I've been posting them here for years and this is the first time I couldn't get one to work.

IIRC, the design that was sold to Rover was the aluminum V8:
Regarding the V6, F-85 had the V6 in '64 and '65, switched to the inline 6 for '66, after which the inline 6 was available in both F-85 and Cutlass. From '64 - '66, the Cutlass had a V8 as standard equipment.

Had to look it up, learned the Buick V6 was a derivative of the aluminum v8 that was sold to Rover. The v6 was sold to Kaiser Jeep, which got bought by AMC. GM bought it back from AMC and it ultimately became the modern day 3800. Never knew any of that.

Oldsmobile used the Buick 225 V6 in the F85 for 1964 & 65. For 1966 they switched to the new Chevrolet 250 six (Chevelles & Beaumonts used 194 & 230 through 1966).
Buick used the 198 c.i.d. V6 1962-63, then continued with the 225 c.i.d. V6 1964 through 1967, then for 1968 switched to the Chevy 250 straight six.
I'm not 100% but I believe they used gold paint on the Olds through 1974, switching to GM Corporate Blue for 1975. Chevy switched to GM Corporate Blue for 1977. Meanwhile Olds switched to the Buick 231 V6 for 1977, having last used the Chevy inline six on 1976 Cutlass & Omega.
The late Hillar Pinna who used to frequent these forums (might have been his father's car) used to have a 1970 Olds Cutlass S coupe with a factory 250 six. When I saw it in 1992 it had a Clifford intake & headers with a 4-barrel.

In the early 80's my brother bought a 69 Cutlass 2 door hardtop at a salvage auction. 6 cylinder automatic, Chevy style 12 bolt and power windows! I've never seen anything like it.
Apparently the Canadian Cutlass's were the only ones to get that style 12 bolt, or so I've been told.

If it was built in Oshawa it would have been a Type C 12-bolt (Chevrolet). Certainly overkill for the average inline six. I also remember a '69 Cutlass survivor around Guildwood that had the Chevy 12-bolt. White car, blue vinyl top & bench seat interior with arm rest, 350 4-barrel, power windows...

I only remember the aluminum V8 issue from a discussion I was having with a friend (who is much smarter than I) in the 1980s about how dumb GM was for giving up the proven design to Rover. This was in the times when fuel economy was considered the most important issue in the new car world, and he thought that the smal lightweightl aluminum V8 would have been the perfect thing for GM at the time.
We didn't know at the time that by the late 1990s that computers were going to have such a large effect in engine management, making vehicle weight something that nobody seemed to care about. That engine would have probably been too outdated to matter by then anyhow...
