Convertible frame boxing parts

Removed the boxing frame pieces off a wrecked frame today. It was rather easy, they were only welded with a two inch weld every two inches. I ground the welds off and it popped apart. I will now weld it back onto a regular frame, turning it into a boxed convertible frame. Its interesting that the two five foot pieces of metal makes a difference.

Interesting! Is that the only difference between the convertible and hardtop frames? Does that just apply to the A-bodies or the B-bodies too? I just have never pondered what the difference in the frames would be.confuse Just trying to get educated!biggrin

I cannot speak for other frames but 64-67 frames are identical other than the added box parts. I was surprised that it was only stitch welded every 2 instead of a solid weld all around, but I guess that many welds sufficiently holds

I did keep it also. On a different subject Dave, is the emergency break cables different on an El Camino as opposed to hard top or convertible? I had a fellow ask and he was told El Caminos are different. I kinda think since they all share the same frame they would be the same. Any thoughts on this question

I would say they are all the same,  my wagon and Hard top stuff is the same anyway, so i would think wagon and elcamino would be the same,  the boxed frames have nothing to do with the way E brakes are run.
