The Avanti by the time this was built were using the Pontiac Firebird as the base vehicle. The VIN will decode as a Firebird but because it was modified by Avanti motors when new it could be titled as an Avanti. Its kind of sad that the Avanti became a body kit added to a Firebird.

I agree with Ray in that they are not bad looking overall. Just adjust your expectations from seeing a Firebird, maybe?
Say what you want about Avanti - it's incredible that the design idea lasted as long as it did, considering under normal circumstances it would have only been around for 2 model years and gone after 1963...
