RE: My New Radio Show

Problem with a podcast is that you can't use copyrighted material. That's kind of what I do. I need the radio station that has the license

Oh nice! I assume that means 2-3 more days.  What an adventure...

We' have to chat when I get back. It's quite a story. Thanks to my wife's 14000 pictures I may have a chance to recall some of it. Mostly it's walking, recovering from walking, getting ready to walk. Hard to believe my chubby 67 year old body still had this many miles in it. Lost quite a few pounds but would have lost more if I hadn't quaffed a beer at every bar. Tomorrow the outskirts of Rome and the next day a short easy 10 to the Vatican.

Too bad the timing is just slightly off. I picked up our kids at the airport a week ago. They did a tour of the UK, France and Italy including some time in Rome, Vatican etc.

Hope they didn't cut me off again! Today's the day for us. 10 kms to the Vatican and it's raining in rome. Nothing will stop us now!(unless I get run over by an Italian driver or thrown out of St Peter's for laughing at a Swiss guard.)

Light at the end of the tunnel! When are you home?

Made it! Although didn't quite make it into st peters as a I forgotten a paring knife in my back pack and security figured I was there to kill the pope. I spent the time while my wife was getting our pilgrim testimonials filled put having a bit of wine out of my emergency supply and watching the tourists. All on all a good day and in the words of the poet and philosopher Ken yackimec, "so much for that."

We fly back on the 10th. Hope to be home on the mancave couch wondering what that was all about by Nov 12. Might have a new show by the 13th but not likely until the 20th. Jet lag will hit me for a while. It's always worse coming west. Looking forward to hearing the canadian accent again. Yeah we do have one or two.

They did it to you again! Cut off before the end. Let them know some of your listeners are not happy.

Bit of an update.  I was planning to do a new show on the 20th but Covid had other plans. i must have picked it up on the 10 hour plane ride especially since the plane was also packed with a bunch of returning cruise ship tourists. Talk about double jeopardy.  There was one lady across the aisle from me who exploded in vomit about halfway through the flight but i just figured it was air sickness or indigestion. Thee was also a lady behind in the long line to check in who said she really didnt feel well.   Anyway it hit me pretty hard on Sunday night and I've been down for a few days but am on the mend.  Good way to lose 8 lbs in three days.

Anyway the news is that the station will do one more recorded show on the 20th and then I should be back.  The manager wants to talk to me about the show -good stuff she says- so we'll have the conversation too.

By the way the reason it gets cut off is that when its live, its me that ends the show even if i'm a bit over the two hours, but when its recorded the computer gives me a two hour block and then thats it.  Later in the prerecordings i did this summer i learned to watch the clock much closer so hopefully wont happen anymore.

Working on  new old stuff for future shows once i clean out my mancave from the slovenly cats that were in and  out of it all summer. What a life!)

Ken, we have a maritime provinces cbc Saturday and Sunday morning radio show, they start at 6AM and run until 9. The show has been around forever and plays everything, old country, heavy metal, rock, east coast music, broadway, you name it.

They sometimes do themed shows or weekends, listening to a train themed show now, Randy Newman, Dixie Flyer, Boxcar Willie, etc.

One weekend quite a few years ago, the former host, Stan Carew, did a weekend of only bagpipe music, it was unforgettable. Im sure Carl is holding back on his bagpipe requests and will now let loose? Did you March to any bagpipe tunes on your recent walking vacation?

Sounds like CBC in the east actually knows its audience and knows that people get sick of listening to HITS OF THE 60's, 70s or 80s  or that kind of lazy narrow programming that ends up playing the 200 songs that made it big in that particular decade over and over and over.   There are many of these kinds of shows  i don't  want to do that kind of thing although i don't have the resources to really dig so the stuff tends to be what i know and like (or at least am amused by.)

That being said i do recall on some days where we would be walking down a quiet road in France or Italy that my wife would start humming "Scotland the Brave". That kept you moving!   You may remember it as being the song played by the Canadians as they arrive at the camp in the movie "The Devils Brigade."

It's ok, I wear headphones for your show because too much of the stuff you play makes her roll her eyes, the same way she does when I buy more car parts identical to the ones I already have on the shelf.

Covid must be loosening its grip on my brain. Tonight i found the  energy to dig though the dusty edges of the stacks of platters I have and put together next week show. (Maybe I'm still brain dead though as it seems a bit random. Oh well it'll keep you on the edge of your stool to see what kind of weird stuff is next!)
