I have a 69 Parisienne that I am having trouble with the signal lights on. Lh activated both lh and rh work together front and back, emergency flashers work as normal, rh activated nothing. I pulled the column apart to inspect the switch nothing abnormal and appears to be no shorts on the terminals. Any insights where to look next? Thanks in advance for your ideas
there should be a seperate ground for the rear and the front lamp harness - maybe this is a ground issue?

I cleaned all of my grounds front and back now I have no issues with any lights going out when headlights or parking lights are turned in but now absolutely no signal lights. I am suspecting that the signal mechanism is the culprit I will try replacing that and then see where I stand
remember that there are two different flashers, one for the turn signals and another for the hazards. One is on the fuse block and the other is usually on the bottom of the dash outboard of the steering column.

Good point John. The flasher on the fuse block is for the 4-ways, whereas the flasher for the signal lights should be in a little clip tucked up under the dash, kind of below the wiper switch.
I swapped out the whole signal mechanism and still an issue. If I short out the terminals on the canceling linkage to ground they, the signals all work correctly . The only grounds I havent taken off and cleaned are the ones on the front rad support. Any other suggestions?
I never knew about that one. How do I test that, where do I test that?
That makes sense since like I said when I ground out the terminals on the signal mechanism they work I just dont understand how you can ground the rag joint

I presume you have the steering wheel off.
To test I'd run a jumper from a ground source to the center shaft of the steering column. That should be a decent test unless someone else has a suggestion.

I got thinking about this, and I don't think the signal light switch needs a ground. However, the rag joint ground is required for the horn to work.
I presume when you say the "signal mechanism", you mean the signal light switch.

A couple things to try:
-What happens when you push in the hazards switch, both with the ignition on & off? The signal lights should flash with ignition on & off, except I think when the brake pedal is pushed.
-Have you changed the signal light flasher? It's not the one on the fuse block, it should be in a clip under the dash kind of below the wiper switch. Or it might be hanging loose.
The flasher on the fuse block is for the hazard lights.
Hazards on they work somewhat correctly. Front parking lights front and rear side marker lights all three tail lamp bulbs and fr license lamp flash at the same time and at an increased speed like when emergency flashers are activated,Ignition on and off no difference brake pedal pushed they stay on solid. Pretty sure not all of these lights should be flashing. When Headlights and or just parking lights are turned on they go all go out
Swapped the flashers now I have rh signal lights that work correctly I think, ie rh front parking light and rh rr outside two of three bulbs in the taillight flash as I think is normal for the signals flash is normal speed and no side marker lamps flashing.
Turn on lh signal light and it behaves the same as with the emergency flashers activated including faster then normal flash speed
I have ordered two new flashers to replace old existing flashers. They will arrive by Sunday
Maybe that will correct the issue, as the flashers in it are definitely from the 70s.
Any other ideas I am open to any and all ideas
Thanks again
Hopefully someone with a 69 can comment as to what is supposed to flash when on hazards or just signalling as I'm really not sure what the front & rear side marker lights are supposed to do.
On my 70, I don't have front side marker lights (just a reflector built into the side of the front signal light lenses), but the rear side marker lights are only running lights.
Also you mention the 'fr license lamp', do you mean the rear license lamp?
Yes, front parking, front side marker, rear side marker, taillights, and rear license plate light all flash.
Thanks Rob, I presume you mean they all flash with the hazard light button pushed.
What about when signalling? Do the marker lights (either front or rear) flash? My 72 GMC, the front marker lights flash when signalling, but rear marker lights are only marker lights.
