WOW!!!!

That's unbelievable....So you are driving down HWY 69 from Sudbury, mid January, a moose crosses the road and you are unaware of the "black Ice" at 3:00AM. You manage to save the car after spinning......Now the car shuts off because of "erratic driving"! Car won't restart, you probably have to have it towed to a dealer for them to reset the computer.........

What else could possibly happen.... Too much of Big Brother, police state.....

I'm sure some criminal gangs will get access to the tech to disable a vehicle. They'll just follow you until you are in a remote area, shut down your vehicle, force you out and take your ride away..

The key takeaway for me is that government legislation regarding automobiles is often misinformed and doesn't consider unintended consequences very well.

And, there's this quote from the article:

"The truth is that nobody really knows what will happen in 2026 because the relevant legislation gives an incredible amount of leeway to government regulators. Based on how the law is written, the NHTSA can basically interpret impairment any way it likes and decide how driver monitoring systems assess this and ultimately respond."

It's hard to say where it will end up, plus factor in a potential change in government in 2024 (that's all I'll say as I don't want to get into politics).  It could go in several directions.

Plus, it's in the US, which isn't necessarily relevant to Canada, though often Canada follows US trends in the automotive industry (for example, TPMS exists in a lot of vehicles sold in Canada, but is not mandatory here as it is in the US).

JMHO.
