Gas odor question

Hey there. So I'm driving my "new" Parisienne pretty often now and can't help but notice strong gas odor after I park the car in the garage. Seems the smell comes from engine bay. I can't find any drops on the floor. Odor is pretty dense at first and then it's not that strong next day, but doesn't seem to go away completely even after a few days. So I'm wondering, if that's normal and that's what they call afterboil? Or something I should be worrying about?

That's my first driveable  classic car:)

Thanks.

Do you know what carburetor it is? Is it a Quadrajet?

Edelbrock, not sure which one yet. Will take a closer look.

The reason I ask is because Quadrajets have a problem with dripping into the engine after it's shut off. The plugs in the bottom of the fuel bowl leak raw fuel into the intake.

If its an edelbrock, a Carter AFB knockoff, it shouldnt stink like that, my AFB never smells that much unless flooded.

Next time you drive it, after parking it, immediately remove the air cleaner and look down the carburetor, see whats going on there and also around the carburetor base on the intake. You may have too much heat under the carburetor from the choke crossover and need a carburetor spacer.

Please post a photo of the engine with the air cleaner removed. It might help identify the problem.

Edelbrock also made spread bore carbs, a continuation of the Quadrajet and a bolt-in replacement.

In '65 I think the 250-horse 327 used a Carter WCFB while the 300-horse used a larger Carter AFB as really the only difference (besides dual exhausts).

I have that same problem with a Holly performer carb. It helps to park it outside for a while to let it cool off a bit before parking in the garage. Still have to leave the door open with a fan on for half an hour.

Seems it's a 1406.

That is an Edelbrock version of a Carter AFB.

As an aside, it looks like the vacuum line to your distributor is coming from the carb baseplate (non-ported). It should come from a ported source higher up on the carb.
