Speeder caught rushing to see my 409 Pontiac?


Guy caught heading this way in his BMW, 248kph, must have been rushing to see my car? Speed limit was 110.

 He just wanted to see if his Beemer was faster than a 409 Pontiac. And yup, he proved it likely is and for the low low price of only $2500...

I have a 3.08 and 28 inch tires, I might get it to 250kph, not sure about the torque peak or if all the internals would remain in place. My VW Beetle TDI would top out at 200kph, that BMW would have a governor, maybe at 248kph. Ditch the governor and it would likely peak out a lot higher. 
I wonder if the driver seat had a brown spot when he saw the police lights come on.

 If you take your Pontiac up to 150 mph I don't want to be in the car! Our old cars at that speed would be scary!!!

In case you were wondering, The last speeding ticket I got was for 124kph in a 100, airplane trap. It was in Ontario and the fine was $35. I couldnt believe it was so cheap, that was about 2015, last one before that, I cant remember.

Around 2016 (on my wife's birthday no less) apparently 94 km/h in a 50 km/h was worth $376 . Another 6 km/h would be a lot worse, (50 over the limit) means a nice walk home.

I got a gimmie last fall, my first in about 32 years. 70 in a 50. Speed trap in Quebec, unseen. About $200 all told for this one.

I count myself lucky seeing some of the shenanigans I've been at over the last 30, didn't get upset in the least, was polite to the officer, and he was in return.

It's slowed me down for sure, even such a little ticket as this was, my luck had now surely run out.

 

My best speed was 280 kph on a bike in 1993.

260 in a Players Challenge Camaro on the Coquihalla connector in 1995. No traffic, no ticket. The RCMP had Camaro Z28's up until 2002 on the Coquihalla.

 if you are caught doing 150 on our roads marked 110 you are with out your car at 40 over. more of our 400  hwy are going to 110

Probably a rich kid in daddy's car, or his own car that daddy bought, or perhaps a highly successful entrepreneur?  Either way, the $2500 probably won't hurt much.

"A 21-year-old Bedford, N.S. man paid almost $2,500 in fines after being caught stunt driving.

 

The RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment stopped the driver on Highway 103 at 11:30 p.m. on April 28.

Police said the BMW i8 was observed travelling 248 km/h in a 110 km/h zone."

Carl, when I was about 16 and still bulletproof, I had a used 1967 biscayne 396 turbo 400 ex cop car up to 140mph before I backed off. It was very stable, I learned to drive when I was 8. It was a cop speedometer, cop suspension, those nice old bias plies, it would have gone faster.

I looked it up:
Stunting is defined as any person who operates a motor vehicle on a highway in a race, in a contest, while performing a stunt or on a bet or wager. Anyone driving a motor vehicle 50 Km/hr or more, over a speed limit, may be charged with stunting.
The fine for stunting in Nova Scotia is $2,422.50 for a first offence, six points on your license and an immediate seven-day roadside license suspension.

When you accumulate 10 points, you lose your license for 6 months.

I have received numerous warnings for speeding, one time I got a ticket for a burnt out taillight, instead of a speeding ticket, after a polite discussion with the officer. He said he would give me a ticket for something with no points. I speed all the time in a reasonable way, I pay attention to all traffic around me, I slow down when I see police- I feel it shows I am paying attention. I owned one motorcycle in my life, a 3 cylinder Kawasaki 500 2 stroke when I was 20, it was an extremely quick bike but kind of twitchy above 90mph. It really taught me to pay attention to all traffic and be prepared to avoid other peoples mistakes. New bikes are crazy quick with a big top end, 250-300kph? My manual transmission cars had no limiters, SHO I had up to 230kph, my wifes V6 Contour 230, my 2003 Passat had 1.8T 230, they all had a bit more. The Passat is the last vehicle I had over 200kph.
There are lots of new cars capable of very high speed and most are automatic, so easy for anyone to take to the limit of the car. Theres is a lot more traffic on the road today everywhere, anyone making a mistake is much more likely to have an accident?
Knock on wood, Ive never had an accident, Ive driven maybe 2.5 million or more kms, never even hit a deer, which we have plenty of everywhere. Pay attention, dont tailgate, watch traffic far ahead of you and behind you, dont do anything stupid, and hope for a lot of luck.

When going to trade school in the 70s I drove a 1970 Chevelle. It was originally a six but I swapped in a 350. It had 2:73 gears and a turbo 350 trans. It cruised nicely at 120 mph, bias ply tires even. I could actually get well past the 120 mph and the needle would disappear below the dash (a corvette and I having some fun on the highway). Interesting when I swapped the Cooper bias ply tires to Goodyear steel belted radials, raised white letter sidewalls, the car didnt have the same stable feel at high speeds anymore. The steel belted radials were supposed to be so much better, the only advantage I found was the tread lasted much longer. The ride and handing seemed better with the bias ply tires.
