64 Custom Sport maroon dash paint

I'm interested in repainting the dash and console in my CS. It has the popular maroon and white interior. Is the dash and body of the console the same colour? I find most lids on the console have a variety of colours, most redone probably with various paint colours. Is the padded vinyl section a darker maroon or the same as the console body? Has anyone found a paint supplier or code for the light maroon dash paint? Thanks.

Hi Brian,
I, too, own a '64 CS with the same interior colors that you have. I have owned the car for 49 years and have repainted my dash. My lower dash and console have always been the same color and the padded vinyl on the lid has always matched. Though I did not track down the original, factory colors, when I repainted the non-padded section of my dash and the console, I matched the the vinyl lid cover to the dash. If you care to check my pictures, you could go to the Feature Cars section in this forum and check out the September 2016 feature car. Or, I could send you a private message or even email you some pictures. I should mention that I am not a purist when it comes to restoring cars. Best of luck,

Thanks for the info. Your 64 looks very nice, and a 4 speed! Do you have any details on the paint you chose for the dash? Close to original?
Do you know where I could find an original 327 air cleaner? Canadian versions are so different from the US Chevy 327s.

Cheers,

Brian

Thanks. Sorry, but I do not know where to find an original 327 air cleaner. Try posting a request on this forum and maybe someone will chime in.
The original color of my '64 CS was Sunfire Red, a color I did not care for since I prefer deep reds. Also, when I decided to repaint my dash, I wanted a deeper maroon color on the metal section of my dash
to match my maroon padded dash. Consequently, I went to a local automotive paint store and looked through many, many paint chips. I chose a color called Cordovan Metallic which is listed as a Ford color.
The brand code is 5008. The OEM Code is FZM6756A. I am pleased with the color which looks much better with my maroon padded dash, but please remember that I was not in the least interested in keeping the original dash color.
Regards,
Brian

I had a better look at your pictures later, and I noticed the darker metal portion of the dash, looks very nice. Thanks for the details of what you used. I have a hard time taking liberties from the factory look, although wider wheels are mandatory and mine came with 66 Grande Parisienne wheel covers, which I like much better than the 64 covers. I'd certainly add power windows if I came across a set and a tilt wheel. Cheers Brian

Brian, does your Custom Sport have courtesy lights under the dash by the kick panels? A trunk light or an emergency brake warning light? Mine doesn't, yet my 63 Impala has those features. The Pontiac has dual ashtray lights however. Priorities I guess.

Hi,
None of the lights you mention from the factory other than the ashtray lights, but I added under dash, under hood, trunk, and even lower door panel lights because I do like lights. I do have a factory '64 CS tilt column but I had to put my original non-tilt back in because I could not resolve an issue with the signal lights in the tilt column which is considerably different from the non-tilt in terms of the cancelling cam etc. I do like your comment about spinner hubcaps and absolutely refuse to change mine to anything else. As you say, "Priorities I guess."

Hey Don, we are one and the same. I bought the CS from my neighbour. I worked on it so much, I got attached to it! A Pontiac owner now, additional company for my 63 Impala and Oldsmobiles.

Are you looking for a trunk light and courtesy lights? I think I might have both for you if so.

I may, are these from a 64 Pontiac? Is wiring with them? Thanks for responding.

They are from a 66. I think I have wiring for the courtesy lights, and maybe for the trunk light as well.

Maybe someone can show what 64 lights look like in case they aren't the same?
