First new thing I've bought in years..

This arrived today...

Cub Delivery.jpg

Eleven years of cutting the grass with a 42" tractor I finally bit the bullet and bought a new mower. I got a Cub Cadet 50" with the Kawasaki motor.

I've paid less for several old cars over the years for what this cost (including the Laurentian in my avatar). My son is building a house on land we gave him next door so he paid half so that really helped.

I cut the lawn today and it took just about half the time the tractor used to take so that's a win.

The only dissapointment I have with this mower so far is the lack of an hour gauge which I failed to notice when I purchased it. The maintenance schedule is based on hours (eg 100 hours between oil changes). So I did some checking and the gauge is available as an accessory and they are on back order. The plug for the gauge is present as is the hole in the instrument panel (it's covered by a decal). Crazy why they wouldn't include it. I'd pay the extra 20 bucks for it (although as an accessory it's $79)

Once you get comfortable with controlling it you can cover a lot of ground in a hurry. My sister and her partner have one of those. He loves it, zooms around, cutting around trees and other obstacles. I took it for a ride, reminds me of my skidsteer. Im a tractor guy though, love my John Deere X540 with 54 deck. Better still is the 47 snowblower, which is the main reason I bought the tractor.

Nice! Cub Cadet has a good reputation and that Kawasaki engine is solid and very common on mowers.

Yes. I cut (no pun intended) my time in about half. I have a lot of trees to go around and it's a breeze with this machine.

Bought a zero turn about 8 years ago and cutting time went from 3 1/2 hours to 2 hours 20 mins (3 acres).biggrin

Be careful on your 'zero turn' it will chew the grass up if not done gently.......no

A Corn-binder with a Quick-a-saki motor? With a few pylons you can make your lawn a Gymkhana course! Seriously though, that is a nice buy.

I remember back in the late 60s/ early 70s there was a Dominion Hardware store across from my school, They often lined up a row of new yellow & white Cub Cadet lawn tractors out front.
Hold onto it Todd. An older friend of mine in his 80s still has his father's first tractor, an 80-year-old old IH McCormick Farmall Cub tractor. It is semi-retired and at his cottage doing small jobs.

Im considering a zero turn myself. What kind of dough is a cub cadet going for?

Impressive Todd. Very well done. I've always been curious about that style.

The 50" with the Kawasaki motor was $5299 plus tax. This was with a $300 instant rebate that Cub Cadet had going on in June. You can get a 42" with the Kohler motor for $4899.

The warranty is 3 years/unlimited hours for the ZT series. I guess they can't put an hour limit on them when they don't include an hour meter. hmm

Wow! Much better than I thought. The John Deere model I was looking at was $7k +, so this is much more appealing

Here's all the specs :

https://www.cubcadet.ca/en/families/zt1-50/17RIEACZ010.html#specs-table-specs-warranty

There are models that are more suited to commercial applications that are quite a bit more expensive but I think this one will suit me just fine.

There's no mention in the manual about doing the first oil change early however when I get the hour meter installed I'm going to change the oil anyway. Better safe than sorry!
