58 steering coupler


i need to repair the coupler. The yoke and studs have virtually no play, and are pretty darn clean. Trouble getting the sleeve off, but it is damaged. I`d like to rebuild it, but cant find the parts. Just need a sleeve, upper seal, lower clamp  and the snap ring. 

Are there other options that will work? Later models?

Did you try sourcing parts from a 58 Chevy? Should be the same.

Are they the same 59-60 maybe? Chevy or Cdn Pontiac.

Far as I know, they were 1958 only.
If I can get the sleeve off in one piece, i`m golden. I can straighten out the sleeve once it`s off. Soaking in ATF and kerosene , we`ll see if that works.

My Cdn Pontiac parts book says 58-62, except maybe Pittman arm and steering gear- need to check part numbers to see if the 58 of those parts are different. 
In these photos, which part do you need?

I don`t look for mechanical 1958 Pontiac parts, most parts places only list parts under Chevy makes.

I assume this would be available in Alberta, every junked 1958-1962 full size Chevrolet or Cdn Pontiac would have this. Place a kijiji ad for a steering column? Place an ad here in the parts wanted forum?

Reproduction of some of it you can get in the USA from the Chevy vendors. Just search steering shaft/column parts?

These couplers fully assembled are readily available on classicindustries.com They even have an all metal flex joint if you don't want to with the original leather piece.

The Canadian made 1958 Pontiac, sedans and hardtops at least, does not have a rag joint. They used a long output shaft from the steering box directly to the steering column, with this coupler as shown in the manual. I may be going a different direction now, as it turns out the steering box i have is toast. It may be rebuildable but am concentrating on other areas now.

Side note, soaking in ATF and kerosene enabled me to get the sleeve off the yoke, with a little bit of carefully placed and carefully done hammer tapping. I`ll be able to install a new seal and re-use the sleeve. The yoke, stud blocks and stud pin are in excellent shape, as is almost all things that should be worn out on this particular vehicle. I think my parts car was neglected physically, especially after it was crashed then parked, but not driven hard at all and maintained mechanically.
