We lost our other cat this morning

Keiko, our 18 year old cat passed away peacefully at 12:40 this morning. We're going to miss her heavy footsteps (thump thump thump when she walked) and her soft meows. Head rubs, a consistent supply of food, and a small box to lay in was pretty much all she needed to be happy. Godspeed

Fur friends are family. We dont own them, we are just their caretakers.or is it the other way around. They are our therapists and comforters. Never easy when one passes on. Sorry for the loss. Nice to know she went peacefully and in the comfort of her home.

We know how you must feel, Todd. You get so familiar to their habits and favourite haunts that you are going to really miss Keiko.
What a cutie!

The only cure is to get yourselves a kitten.

Thanks guys. I guess it's to be expected when your pets get older. On a bright note Poncho the cat seems to be doing well. Between you and me I don't think Poncho is mourning as he and Keiko just tolerated each other.

So sorry for you loss. You need another one now for company for Poncho. In due time. A new kitten will liven him up.

On another note, what is it about cats wedging themselves into boxes? They all seem to have a fixation on it.

Glad that Poncho is doing okay!

When we lost our first cat, it took a year before we could really think about getting another one, but eventually we found a rescue kitten who didn't have a mom, and we fell in love all over again.  Still miss the first guy to this day, though.

I'm sure in time another little package of furry cuteness (and little needle teeth and claws!) will find its way into your hearts... if Poncho is ready for company, that is.

I think we'll hold out on another cat for now. I feel Poncho will enjoy being an only cat. I remember when Poncho was a kitten and we had Maddy who was a senior cat. Poncho would pounce on Maddy as she walked by him. Maddy had hip dysplasia and the pain from the pounce would cause her to throw up. Poncho has bad hips now and I feel there'd be some karma payback if we got a kitten!

Sorry to hear that Todd. Having Poncho only and him getting 100% attention sounds like the right thing for him at this time.

That sounds like a good plan, Todd.  Let Poncho live out his senior years in peace and quiet, with all the attention from his people.  Besides, you probably need to give yourself some time to grieve Keiko.

I find that adopting a cat seems to work itself out.  When it feels right, you know its right, and you cant really rush it.

I have no doubt a cat will find us at some point. That's how it's been all along. We've never gone out looking for a cat.

What he said......no. It's tough losing these angels.

We had two wonderful little furry pals and they both made 18 after a wonderful life....smile

This will make you smile, our Rusty was featured on CTV in Vancouver....biggrin

We know better than most what pet owners go through when we lose them. Loss of our dog due to cancer is one of the hardest things I have ever had to deal with.

Keep an eye on Poncho Todd. We had to put our Golden Retriever down almost a year ago. Our cat is on the edge of wild, the best rodent control ever and not a cuddler. We have seen a major change in the cats behaviour since Gunner left us. He is more social and even though the two werent close he still wanders around looking for him.

We had Gunner put down at home and the Vet that came told us to keep an eye on the cat because whether close or not, he will be effected by his sudden absence.

Terra and Poncho are exhibiting a "no love lossed" attitude in regards to Keiko's passing. Terra tried to make friends with Keiko when she first met her and she ended up with a swipe (claws out) to her nose so that friendship never happened.

This was taken moments ago. Poncho and Terra playing by the woodstove.
