Pretty cool thread! I'm going to count motorbikes too. Let me see now...

Before marriage:

1975 Can Am TNT 175 cc trail bike (my poor worried mother!)

1978 Yamaha XT500 Enduro

1982 Yamaha XT550J Enduro (Still have)

1989 Dodge Dakota 4x4 convertible pickup. if you can only afford one vehicle, might as well get one that is everything at once! (Still have)

After marriage:

2002 Chevrolet Venture Minivan  (still have-more of a storage shed now)

2008 Pontiac Montana Minivan

2013 Ford Flex  (Still have-stepson drives it now-350,000 kms-not bad)

2019 Ford Flex  (still have-when wife finds one she likes...)

Next purchase- used Ford Flex?   yikes!

There's a sad, aging story in this somewhere!

2009 Cobalt SS coupe

It was nice, but I am unlikely to ever buy new again.
Vehicles have gotten much too complicated for doing repairs at home...
And then the cost of new vehicles has skyrocketed in the last handful of years...

I guess new cars are ok if you only keep them until the warranty is up. Check out this oil pan repair on a 2018 F-150 with the 2.7 engine.

Had to look that up Todd, way more hp and torque than my 1998 305 and much better on fuel. But would guess when that belt or oil pan goes, she comes to a grinding halt. That is pathetic engineering.

My first vehicle was a 1977 Yamaha DT125 with about 500 kms when I bought it in '79. Sold to buy:

1984 Honda XL350R dual-purpose. Bought new Sat, April 21/84 and is still in my garage!

In the late 80's I considered a Firebird S/E V6 5-speed & a similar Camaro, but insurance quotes quickly changed my mind. That also quashed the Mustang LX 5.0 I wanted. I asked about ordering a Cavalier wagon, V6 5-speed with gauges rather than the graphic display. They wouldn't do it. A dealer in Barrie had a fleet of brand new 1989 Police Caprices. I was very interested but wifey said "No".
I ended up with a new:

1989 Corolla GT-S Twin Cam. Excellent car that never let me down, fun to drive, handled like a go-cart and loved to rev. I would still have it today except it was involved in a 6-car accident when it was 14 years old and had 375,000 kms. It still looked and worked like new until the big bang. I'd still love to have it but no others exist anymore.

2003 VW Passat wagon GLX V6 5-speed manual (1st one in Canada, bought Aug 2002)

2010 VW Passat wagon Highline 2.0 turbo four 6-speed manual (only a couple of Highlines in Canada with manuals)

2019 VW Golf All-Track wagon 6-speed manual Highline

Also none. Looked at a 78 el Camino to replace my 68 SS, but decided against it.

1975 nova 4 door 350 auto
1980 tercel manual
1982 Corolla wagon manual
1984 Camry manual, worst and rustiest car ever owned
1987 Celebrity Eurosport auto bucket seats
1988 Cutless international auto bucket seats
1989 bonneville SSE auto
1991 explorer, manual, loaded, ordered it, delivered in 5 weeks, $21,000. I had tried to order the new 4 door Chevy with a manual, waited 3 months, they couldnt even give me a build date so I ordered the explorer
1998 beetle, manual, tdi, tuned, topped out at 120mph, 50 mpg, put 350,000kms on it

2003 Passat, manual, tuned, gas 4 turbo, put 350,000 on it too
2013 Passat manual tdi, adblue car bought back in dieselgate
2015 Passat manual tdi, adblue car, bought new in 2017, worked great, unbelievable on fuel, until 2022- had a lot of problems with stuff they had trouble figuring out and fixing, parts backordered, etc. water pump, heater core, hvac issues, just stupid stuff. Awesome on fuel almost 50mpg, lots of torque.

Ive never worn a clutch out in any of my new or used cars or blew up an automatic transmission or had an engine failure. I used to drive a lot, 40-50,000 kms a year, so Id turn vehicles over fairly often. With high miles, cheaper to change cars often or else drive them into the ground imho.

Don, seeing that list of yours takes me back to my childhood. My dad had a new car every year or two and blended in new cars for my mum every three or four. I wish I had pictures of them all!

As for me, my list is short.
1981 Honda Accord
1983 Honda Civic FE (This car got amazing fuel mileage!)

Since then we buy year old cars and keep them 10-12 years, or until repairs are hard to justify.

Dad was a Pontiac salesman from 57-68, in 1965/6, he brought home a used 1964 Pontiac a travelling salesman had traded, it had 20,000 miles showing but it had rolled over and actually had 120,000 miles on it, driver seat was worn a bit, rest of seats had never been sat on much. It could pass for a 20,000 car. A fellow I did business with put on 70,000+kms per year, usually traded at 200-250,000. Sometimes hed buy the same car so his neighbours wouldnt know he got another new car.
He retired at about age 80, flew with his wife to Alberta, rented vehicles and while gone on a trip for about 2.5 weeks put 10,000 kms on rentals. Landed in Calgary, went to Edmonton, back to Calgary, Vancouver, then Alaska, back to Vancouver, back to Calgary, not sure where he went. He said he always wanted to see the road to Alaska.

I have always bought used with less than 20k miles because you save thousands of dollars, so only 1 brand new one because of the deal. A 2008 Pontiac G6 GT hardtop convertible. It was end of the year closeout and the dealer threw every incentive and discount at it that he could. I told him that I didnt want to spend a penny over $24,000 including all taxes and fees. Total was $22,500. Too good to pass up. I put 80,000 miles on it and sold it for $11,000.
