Water Pump Question

Now that the engine in my Laurentian is apart awaiting a cam, I decided to check out the numbers. Sure enough, the 350 is the original motor (oooh, a numbers matching Laurentian!). One interesting thing I noticed is the water pump date code (Jan.31 69) is later than the selling date of  my car (Sept. 13 68). I did a search for the part number (3927170) online and it came up as correct for 69 (wit the comment "rare") and supposedly cast in Tonawanda and used only on Tanawanda engines. Does anyone know if this PN was also service replacement water pump? Nowhere is this mentioned on any of the sites I visited. I was going to install a new pump since it's old and already off. If it's so "rare" perhaps I'll Ebay it for a gajillion dollars!

Todd I think that is the casting number used for 1969 DZ 302 engines. Just the date code on the pump is worth something to the Camaro purist. It is the long version pump?

I don't think it's the long version. It looks exactly the same as the generic pump I replaced it with at carquest. I'll toss it on Ebay and see what happens. The core amount was only $3!

I am pretty sure all 69 small block applications used the long pump except for 1/2 tons.

Thanks Carl. I wasn't sure how to determine the difference between the two.

'69 was the 1st year for the long water pump, big and small blocks. corvettes and pickups stayed with the short pump. the earlier ('69 -'72?) pumps were a different casting, no ribs, than the later castings.

Right Dave, I forgot the Vettes.

Todd, if the pump looks like the back is hitting the timing cover, it's a short pump. If the back has some slack that you might be able to squeeze part of you little finger between the pump and the cover, it's a long pump. That's the best way I can explain it.

I didn't get a gazillion dollars for it, but I did better than the $3 core charge!

People laugh at what I sell on Ebay. I remember a few years ago we had FREE Monte Carlo SS handouts at work. I bet a co worker I could sell one on EBay. He said "Your on!". Well, I got three bucks for it on Ebay and some cash from my co worker!

Wow, good job. I have been amazed at ebay.

A while back I listed something on here. No takers. It wasn't a cheap item either. I put it on ebay and got more than double what I listed it for here.

To me it seems crazy how much people will pay for something, but then when I am in need of an item I just can't find, I go to ebay and put in such a high proxy bid I KNOW I will get it.

Perfect example was the spare 65 Canso SD gauge cluster I got on ebay a few months back. Nobody was going to outbid me on it, I assure you!

I did the same thing with the rally cluster I won for my car. Thank the Lord I didn't have to pay my maximum bid!

It is all in marketing. Sell it as a date coded for that Concours restoration!

Radio delete plates are actually one of the most sought after restoration items. A friend is having a heck of a time finding one for his car. Well he can find one just doesn't want to part with 75 bucks to get it.

What car does he need one for? I can keep an eye out for it.

I put one on ebay a few months back for a 68 Belair. Beautiful piece, uncracked, proper attaching hardware and got a whopping 36 bucks. 2 weeks later the identical one with a 3/4" piece broken out of it brings 48 bucks......
